Egypt Accepts U. N. Plan To Ease Tension a. • Cairo Agrees To * Proposal To Ease Frontier Tension JERUSALEM (INS) — Egyptian acceptance of a UN plan cleared the wwy today for resuming within a week of the border marking project between the Arab state and Israel in the El Auja zone. UN secretary general Dag Ham marskjold .announced in Jerusalem Tuesday that Cairo had agreed to his proposals for easing tension in the area along the Sinai Peninsula frontier. Israel formally accepted the plan on Jan. ♦, and Hammarskjold won Egyptian agreement during his talks with premier Gamai Abdel Nasser last weekend. The borde rdemarcatlon project was called off last fall because of Egyptian-Israeli tension in the area which was climaxed by an Israeli raid on Egyptian positions. Tel Aviv said the Arab soldiers had entered the demilitarised sone illegally. ’ Hammarskjold intervened in the dispute personally last November. Along with the redrawing of the border lines, the UN official called for the elimination of mines and anti-personnel weapons, and the withdrawal of troops of both sides. Hammarskjold, who is seeking information on the complex ArabIsraeli dispute in a flying tour of middle eastern capitals, said he now had a complete "map” of the problem. Carrying the analogy further, he said he also could see roads through the map leading to an eventual settlement of the Palestine problem. Reports Firing JERUSALEM (INS) — Israel said today that Egyptians tired twlM.on an Israeli patrol along the Gaza Strip Tuesday. A military spokesman in Jerusalem said the Israeli patrol returned the fire near the village of Zlkim. No casualties were reported.
