Rural Youth Wins Attendance Bell District Meeting Is Held At Marion - Seventeen rural youth members and advisors returned to Adams county last evening bringing with them the district attendance cowbell, from the district IV rural youth meeting at the 441 club building In Mafton. The attendance cowbell is awarded to the county having the most members present times the number of miles traveled. - Mixers were in charge pf Adams county, followed by group ringing and devotions. Gene Biberstein, president, called the meeting to order with the secretary and treasurer’s report by Gloria Koeneman. Announcements were made concerning the recreation workshop to be held at the 4-H club building in Wabash Saturday. This workshop is open to anyone InteA ested in recreation leadership in youth groups.. Saturday, January 28, was the date announced for the district skating party at the Idle Wyld skating rink in Marion. The district basketball tournament will be played January 29 and February 4. The district co-op school will be held in Marion March 19. Charles Eberhart of Shelby county and state rural youth president was present at the meeting,and urged everyone to join the state rural youth trip to Texas and Mexico March 4-11. The educational feature was a panel stressing the Importance of “Community Service rojects” in the local club. Sally McCullough participated on this panel. The district scrapbooks were judged and Adams county placed second in the district. Recreation was led by Sally McCullough. Gloria and Roger Koeneman with refreshments served by the host county. Grant county. Those present from Adams county were: Bertha Landis and Leo Seltenright, extension advisors; Elffiof Nchfleuf, Jane Brew, Jim Schmiege, Bob Sprunger. Two Persons Killed In Gary Collision Ambulance, Auto And Bus Collide GARY, Ind. (INS) —A complete Investigation was underway today of an ambulance, bus and car collision that killed two persons at a busy Gary street Intersection. Killed were William E. Duncker, 80, of Walkerton, and his wife, Marie, 70, both of whom were riding in the ambulance Ambulance attendant, Martin Mellirf. 62. of Walkerton, was injured lyAmbulance driver Ray Nusbaum, 45, Walkerton mortician and deputy coroner, suffered minor injuries. No one in the bus, which caried 15 school children, and ,po one in th® car were injured. Police said the ambulance, with its red light flashing and siren sounding, hit the bus and then the front of an auto driven by warrant officer Orion D. Barrett, 32, of the 79th missile battalion. The ambulance bounded 16 feet into the air and landed upside downCity .bus driver Willard Charnetsky, 40, of Gary, said he didn’t hear or see the ambulance until it wks too late to avoid a eollision. He swerved to avoid the ambulance and his bus narrowly missed three pedestrians. Barrett, his wife and young child all ©scaped injury in the car.
