County Agenfs Column »'■ S'—4 Paultry Profits Good poultry profits c»n come only from top-uotch chicks. And Hobart I. Hogue, extension poultryman at Purdue University, says it’s not too ewly to begin thinking about where to buy next spring's baby chicks. Many sources of Information are available on the ‘’performance of various poultry strains. If you keep your flock for market eggs, study the results of national random sample egg laying contests which are published in poultry magasines. Find out which strains are doing the most efficient Job of producing eggs, qnd which strains have the lowest death rate. If you’re a broiler producer, study the results of the many broiler trials. And by ail means, advises Hogue, talk to your poultry-raising neighbors. Hear what they have to say about their experiences with chicks from various hatcheries. Hoosier hatcheries annually offer many excellent strains, crosses, and hybrids.- Hogue says that chicks produced under the national poultry improvement plan assure the buyer of chicks of the highest quality. Mr. Eisenbower’e message Jan. 5 said the Communist threat to the free world must be met with defenea forces that "command respect." Dulles, in the magaaina article was quoted as saying the U.
