Give Assistance For Tax Returns Internal Revenue Office Gives Aid District director of internal revenue, Gary Campbell, today announced plans of the revenue service for assisting ail taxpayers who will need help in preparing their income tax forms during the filing period which began January 1 and will end at midnight April 16. Campbell said it is the policy of the service to provide all taxpayers with all of the advice and assistance they need in preparing their returns and to provide this assistance by the most efficient and time-saving means. All offices this year have adopted ’'self-help" methods in ‘ order to speed up the 'service and at the same time assist the taxpayer permanently by giving him a better understanding of how to prepare and file his federal income tax return. Under these methods each office will provide chairs, tables, pencils and tax forms, so that taxpayers may begin to fill out their own returns. Whenever a taxpayer reaches an item on the form that causes him difficulty, he may ask ’ one of the revenue employees who will be stationed in the area to answer questions as they arise. Campbell said the service this year is urging all taxpayers to bring their problems to revenue offices on designated 'assistance days.” On such days a fill staff of assistors will be available and taxpayers will get speedier service. He said taxpayers will get assistance on any working day during the filing period, however, the service on other than designated assistance days may be The schedule of "assistance days" at the Fort Waytie: office which serves the Decatur area is as follows: Jan. 9, 10. 16 and 17 and Jan. 23 through Jan. 31; Feb. 1 through Feb. 17, and Feb. 20, 21, 27 and 28; Mar. 5. 6. 12, 13. 19. 20, 26 and 27, and April 2 through April 16. >. ’ Many of the problems taxpayers have tin be readily handled by telephone. The revenue service has set aside sufficient telephones to enable taxpayers to get help this way rather than to make a special-trip to the revenue office. Campbell stated that taxpayers should call Fort Wayne, A-7426, to get telephone assistance at any time when they are making out their tax return forms. Campbell-revealed that the revenue service and major newsservices are preparing extensive ma- » ■ ....
