We join with his many friends all over Adams county in wishing a speedy recovery to Hon. John W. Tyndall, who has been active for more than sixty years in civic and political affairs of Decatur and this county. Mr. Tyndall has been confined to his home at the oorner of Monroe and Fourth streets for several weeks with ill* ness. 0 0 More people attended Churches in 1955 and more people were members of Churches in the United States in 1955 than any year in the history of our great nation. It was a year full of Church activity. To make 1956 oven a greater year in Church attendance, member Churches of the Decatur Ministerial association are a part of the World Wide Church attendance movement. With a theme "The Answer Is God" local Churches will make a great effort for even bigger Church attendance here. We are sure almost everyone will cooperate in this worthwhile movement In an impressive informal ceremony presided over by Ed F. • Jaberg, retiring Adams county clerk, Decatur’s new city officials received their oath of office Saturday afternoon at the City HalL Mayor Robert D. Cole and Mrs. Mirriam HalL clerk-treasurer took' the oath separately and than it was administered to all five of * the Council members. Many friends of the new Administration and many Jnst plain citizens interested in good government attended and congratulated the new new tjfficers. Today the new ad- ' ministration is taking over the wheels of operation; it is the first time m more than twenty years ' that one political party has* held every j municipal elective office; The composite picture of the new administration is pe&aps the _ x 4ftrongpst in more than twenty years. | All five Councilmen are highly-respected in their various avocations. Mayor Cole has out- ’ lined some sound policies, which, should make for a better Decatur and Mrs. Hall'Ts experienced and should fit well into her many duties. While, time and again, they have said they can’t per- '■ form mitacles, ft is our belief ' -'v ■ -——————

that every member of the new adI r.ministration will serve all the people well and join in everybody’s drive for a better Decatur always. While damage to the filler building on North Second street, owned by Mrs. Charles Brodbeck will be in the thousands of dollars. the New Year’s Eve fire would have been much worse, had it not been for the splendid and well organised effort of the Decatur Volunteer Fire Department, under leadership of Chief Cedric Fisher. The firemen fought the bikie and smoke sos more-than five hours and through their effort there is no ’doubt they saved the outer structure of the Miller Building, and possibly the whole , block. Our hats are off to every member of the active and volunteer foree. And incidentally the local Police Department deserves commendation for its assistance. The policemen were stationed at several street intersections and with the temperature below - freezing .they guided traffic around the scene of the fire, leaving the area free from traffic congestion. It was a sad New Years Eve affair, but it could have been much worse. _o o What kind of a famulus is operating in Huntington county? ’ Last November several thousand . Huntington citizens went to the polls an expressed their preference for a Democratic mayor. The votes were counted by boards headed by Republican inspectors. Shortly afterwards a recount was ordered by a Republican judge Glenn and he appointed the third man onAhwracount board, making that board predominantly Republican. That board also declared the Democrat to be elected. Then —the judge took matters in his own hands and declared the Republican the winner by one vote. What a shame U.C.L.A. football fans didn't think to have judge ■ ' Glenn officiate at the Rose Bowl • game. If there is a law which permits a circuit judge to ignore the will of a majority cf the —- people of a county and fender his own decision as it apepara on the surface was done in Huntington, certainly that law should*' be changed.

Modern Etiquette | BY ROBERTA LEE I Q. Is it proper, when "setting the dinner table, to put the butter on one plate and pass it around, or to put It on individual bread-and-but-ter plates? A. This is more a question of convenience than propriety, and certainly it is more convenient to serve vibe butter on individual plates than to have your guests pass it around. Q. Is it obligatory to make calls on the bride and bridegroom? A. Yes; all those who received invitations to the wedding should call on the bride in her new home, even if they didn’t httend the wedding. Q. Is one ever justified in mentioning to friends and acquaintances the prices one has paid for certain possessions? A. Never! This is extremely illbred.
