Christmas Attractions At Adams Theater Christmas week brings three important, highly rated pictures to the Adams theater. "Desperate Hours,” the story of an Indianapolis family whose home is invaded by criminals tor 48 hours, plays Sunday and Monday. The big cast includes Humphrey Bogart, Fredrlc March, Martha Scott, Arthur Kennedy, Gig Young 'and Mary Murphy. Many of the scenes were photographed in Indianapolis. James Dean, who was recently selected in the national audience poll as American’s favorite actor, is starred in “Rebel Without a Cause,” the C inemasc Pl? e attraction playing Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The picture is a powerful story of the problems of a confused teen-ager. Included in the cast are Natalie. Wood, Jim Backus and Ann Doran. Liberace, whose piano-playing on television has won him millions of admirers, proves himself a talented actor in “Sincerely Yours” showing at the Adams next Friday and Saturday. The picture is a warmhearted story ot a musician and is filled with ear-pleasing tunes of all varieties. Six-Month Term To Indianapolis Driver INDIANAPOLIS (INS) —Homer Nunley, 41, of Indianapolis, faces a six-tnonths’ sentence on the state penal farm and 870 and costs, by sentence of Criminal Judge Saul I. Rabb. Nunley was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of IFquot, reckless driving and driving without an operator’s license. Robbery Attempt On Denver Bank Fails Automotive Store Owner Is Arrested DENVER (INS)—A 47-year-old automotive store owner faced charges in Denver today following an unsuccessful attempt to hold up a bank because he "wanted more money for Christmas.” The gunman, identified as Willis Howard Rants of Granby, Colo., was captured Friday minutes after he attempted to hold up thjg.<i<ational City Bank of •Denver. Detectives said Rants wps the man who entered the bank shortly after noon. He was armed with a .32 automatic and wearing tan leather gloves. He told teller Max G. Miller, 27, to put the money in a paper bag be produced. Instead, Miller dropped to the floor and shouted: * "It’s a holdup!" The bandit fled the bank. At the corner of the nearest Intersection, he forced his way into a car owned by Guy R. Kyle, 68, of Denver. Donald Roberts, 17-year-old Denver motorist, witnessed the commandeering and followed the auto containing the fleeing bandit. With Roberts was William I. Kingsley, a former Denver policeman. Roberts switched on his car lights and kept blowing the car horn to attract attention. Meanwhile, a cordon' of three dozen police cruisers swept into action. The patrol cars cornered the bandit's auto on a busy boulevard about a mile away from the bank. General Strike Is On In Peru Town Committee Formed For General Strike LIMA, Peru (INS) —A committee of Peruvian students and workers was formed today and declared a general strike in the town of Arequipa. The committee said the strike would continue until its demands were met. It demanded the resignation of the minister of government and police, Esparza Zanartu, the abolishment of the minietrys of interior, security and law and a general political amnesty. The Bankers Federation have declared that a nationwide bank strike will start Monday unless the demands of the strikers were met. The strike followed Wednesday’s events when police used tear gas to break up a fight between members of two political parties. Meanwhile, the government named Gen. Perez Godoy as prefect (chief of police) for Arequipa following the resignation of the civilian prefect. BREAK IN LEVEE (Continued from Page One, Nevada.
