British Cabinet Is Shaken Up By Eden Leading Ministers In Cabinet Shifted LONDON (INS) — Prime minister Sir Anthony Eden is expected to take a more direct hand in ( British foreign policy an a result of today’s reshuffling of the top ministers in the Conservative government. The long-rumored changes pumped new and younger blood into the cabinet for the long haul through the more than four years the Tories are expected to stay in power. Harold MacMillan, after nine months as foreign secretary, has taken over as chancellor of the exchequer from Richard A. Butler, who becomes leader of the house of commons and virtually deputy prime minister. The fast-rising and popular, Selwyn Lloyd, 51, succeeds to the foreign ministry job, which Eden first held in 1935. Most of the London newspapers today applauded the change of foreign secretaries, but the Conservative press showed no great enthusiasm for the over all shifts. The 52-year-old Butler, who masterminded Britain’s climb to her current prosperity over the past four years, is still regarded as the No. 2 man in the government. Lloyd was replaced as defense

minister by Sir Walter Monckton. who turned over the labor ministry to lain MacLeod. 42. MacMillan, whose handling of foreign affairs has been under heavy criticism. Is moving into an equally difficult post, one which many consider the toughest in the government. The new leader of the British Labor party, Hugh Gaitskell. Is a former chancellor of the exchequer himself and considered a brilliant man in finance and economics. The reshuffle, the most extensive in the party since World War 11, involved severTychanges within the cabinet, six in nKpisterial rank side the cabinet and the appointment of 12 junior ministers. The shifts lowered the average age of the cabinet by more than four years to 54 years, four months. » » KODAK FILAA HOLTHOUSE DRUG CO.
