Spartans Whip Wren Saturday Night, 73 *45 The Pleasant Mills Spartans, after starting slowly, chalked up their seventh victory of the season and their fifth in a row Saturday night by easily- defeating Wren. 0., 73-45. at Wren. The teams were tied -tt 8-8 at the first quarter, but the Spartans were on top at the half. 3-1-18, and at the third period. 56-29. Darron Light scored 22 points to lead the Spartans, with Don Melching counting 18 and Jerry Williamson 16. Tutnbleson tallied 17 for Wren. Only team idle this week is Monmouth, which is leading the countiny standing with nine victories and one defeat. —oOo— The Decatur Commodores, with a fine 7-2 record, will meet the Jefferson Warriors Tuesday night at the Decatur gym. Jefferson, idle last week, has a season mark at 4-4. •—oOo — Also on Tuesday night, Adams Central’s Greyhounds will host the Ossian Bears, the Spartans will be at home at Pleasant Mills to the Petdoleum Panthers, and Ohio City will meet the Gorillas at Hartford. •—oOo — The Limberlost Bell will be up for grabs again Thursday night when the Berne Bears are host to the Geneva Cardinals. Geneva has a 5-4 record, while the Bears are at 3-6. —oOo— The Decatur Yellow Jackets will make theid second Northeastern Indiana conference start Friday night, playing the Eagles on the stage at Columbia City. The Eagles pulled a surprise last Friday by edging the New Haven Bulldogs, 54-53. Only other game scheduled Friday sends Hartford to Ridgeville. —oOo — > All county teams will take a rest next week during the holiday season, with the exception of the Decatur Yellow Jackets. The Jackets will compete in a holiday tourney at the new Elmhurst gym Dec. 27 and 28. Decatur will compete ■against Elmhurst, Fort Wayne Cpucordia and Fort Wayne Central Catholic. The draw for the tourney will be made later this week. Norb Witte is still far out in front in the individual scoring race in the county with 258 points In 10 games, a lead of 108 points over his nearest rival, Darvon Light of Pleasant Mills.
