Hold Demonstration Over Baghdad Pact Troops Disperse Jerusalem Throng JERUSALEM (INS) —Hundreds of demonstrators shouting slogans against the Badhdad pact attempted today to storm the Sbekh Jarah quarter of the Jordan-held old city of Jerusalem. The throngs were dispersed when Arab Legion troops joined police in firing sten guns above the angry demonstrators. Eyewitnesses said it appeared that the crowds were trying ot force their way into the area where the Turkish and other foreign consulates are located. Turkey, Iran, Iraq. Pakistan and Britain are the present members of the Baghdad alliance against Communist aggression. The British have been negotiating in Amman to make Jordan the sixth member of the newly formed Middle East Treaty Organization METO, but the talks were suspended last week when the Jordan government resigned. The new Jordan government of Premier Hazzah Mahali announced Saturday that the negotiAions with Britain on pact membership would be resumed "in due time.” Those who watched today’s demonstijgtions said the advancing throngs swayed and finally broke before the force of the oncoming Arab Legion troops, who had been rnshed to the aid of the out-num-bered police. In Amman, Jordan’s capital city, other anti - pact demonstrators marched to government house but ' remained peaceful. The Ministry of Education ordered all schools closed until further notice as a result of Sunday’s demonstrations.
