Prosecutor Will Attend Conference Prosecuting attorney Lewis L. Smith will attend the Indiana prosecutor’s association and attorney general’s conference Friday and Saturday at Indianapolis. Similar meetings are called twice a year. Mass Inoculation To Ward OH Typhoid 54 Are Stricken In Pennsylvania City LANCASTER. Pa. (INS) — The mass inoculation of 35,000 Lancaster residents was scheduled by health authorities today to ward off an outbreak of para-typhoid fever which has stricken 54 persons. At least three of the known victims are reported in critical condition. Dr. W. D. Schrack. Jr . head of the state health department's division of communicable diseases, who made a personal inspection, declared: “We have a hot bug in our midst."
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1955
He ordered supplies of immunls> Ing vgcfilne from Harrisburg where they had been stockpiled sinoo the summer floods. The inoculations were scheduled to get underway at noon in offices of local physicians. Scheduled for inoculations are persons who have used Queen Dairy Products. Dr. Oscar Daviß, county medical director, said every reported case had been traced to a customer of the dairy. He added, however, that Pennsylvania State University inspectors have absolved the dairy plant of culpability. Other checks were made of the fanners and cows supplying the dairy. Results- are being awaited from tests taken of dairy employes. The dairy firm voluntarily took its products off the market yesterday. and Is serving Its 10,000 door-to-door customers with products of a rival concern. Dr. Schrack declared: “We do not know as yet just what caused this epidemic, but we must stamp it out immediately before it spreads.” ( The first case was reported a week ago. and Dr. Davis pointed out tljat “there are probably many many more cases than the number reported.” He said samples of raw milk from 68 area farms are now being studied.
