They’re depending on us for support and hacking I.et'B show them that this—in Decaturs—not lacaing!!! This poem was written by Shirley Wass, a very talented senior girl. It was read over the P.A. system to urge the student body of D.H.S. to attend the pep rally Monday night. The turnout for the affair was wonderful, adding a lot of encouragement to the team members and student body. Mr. Worthman talked to the cheering block, congratulating and encouraging them on their fine spirit shown. Terry Murphy and Phil Debolt, seniors, Tony KeftyT~Junior, and Larry Moses, sophomore, each gave a short speech to the block and others attending. The cheerleaders did a number of yells and the block responded in a very

fine way. We wish to thank the block, coach, and team for such a swell job of building up the spirtt of the school. Let's hope it lasts the entire year!! I — D. H. S. .— “Every game we play, we play to win!!” This cry rang through the gym at the opening game of the Jackets basketball season. The cheering block looked “out bf this | world’’ in their white blouses and shirts, doing motions along with the cheerleaders to several yells. The varsity cheerleaders were outfitted in purple skirts lined in white, white buks, and white blouses with a D.H.S. on the back. The second team leaders wore purple boatnecked jumpers and white blouses with purple trim. Across the back of the jumpers was D.H.S. They -looked sharp on the floor as they led the fans in some peppy yells. Nice going, kids, you aredoing a swell job!! — u. H. S. — The girls’ physical ed classes have started playing basketball, which seems to be enjoyed very much by the girls. Although quite different from boys basketball, it is nevertheless a strenuous game, as you can see by the red faces and. hard breathing. This will lessen as the girls get used to the game. — D. H. S. — Beat those Cardinals!!! will be heard tomorrow night as the Jackets meet the Geneva Cardinals in their second game of the season. The cheering block will be on hand to cheer our team on to victory, the band will play the school songs and other songs, the cheer-

“Breathes there a man with soul so dead, who never to himself hath said, This is my own, my native land.” These thrilling words were used by Rev. Otto IC. Bosse to begin last week's chap-

el Service. Rev. Bosse, who is the pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Preble, went on to enumerate the privileges and the responsibilities which we hold as citizens of the United States. Thank you. Rev. Bosse, for a very inspiring and thought-provoking message. — M. H. S. — VICTORY! Yes, the mighty Eagles did it again! They proved victorious ■ again last Friday evening in the game with Adams Central. After quite a battle with the Greyhounds, the Eagles managed to pull ahead in the last few minutes and went on to win by a score of 70-53. HURRAH! — M. H. S. — The second team also played a very fine and exciting game. However. they were nosed out by a final score of 26-24. Better luck next time, boys! — M. H. S. — The annual drive for the American Junior Red Cross, which is the junior membership division of

the American Red Cross. was held at .M.H.S, last Monday. The classes met. in their various home rooms, and the funds were collected by the individual class treasurers. The total amount collected from all grades was $24.17. — M. H. S. — One of the most important academic achievements which is so often slighted is regular attendance at school. Not only is regular attendance beneficial to the student, but it also increases the amount of state financial aid which a school can receive. For the first six weeks of this school year, M.H.S. has an attendance record of 99.1%. The aid from the state is based upon the first 41 days of school and this six weeks constitutes a large portion of these days. Let’s keep up the fine attendance, kids! ■* ’—M.H. S. —■ September 29 the seniors had their pictures taken, and today the final results were brought to M.H.S. by the photographer from Robert’s Studio. Now the seniors ■ take up where the underclassmen left off in the' exchange of pictures. — M. H. S. — Last week several members of the senior class were guests of the principal and student council advisor at Decatur high school. . These students were seeking advice on the establishment and organization of the student council which is being planned at MJLS. Thank you, Mr. Andrews and Mr. Ketchum, for assisting us. — M. H.
