BIRTHDAY PARTY 18 HELD RECENTLY Mrs. Paul Busse and Mra, Charles Busse entertained with a party for their son and daughter respectively. on the occasion of their birthdays, Sunday at the home of Mrs. Charles Busse. The tattle was gaily decorated with little cars, capdies and hats, with a circus cake as a centerpiece. Those present were: Mrs. Fred Busse, Mrs. Caroline Hoile, Rev. O. C. ( As each of the CO typically west-i ern garbed individuals arrived they were given cards naming one of eight western states, and denoting at which of the eight statenamed tables they were to sit. The tables were cleverly decorated with small guns, holsters, spurs, cowboys and Indians and were arranged as the spokes of a wagon ‘wheel. When the cooks yelled “come an’ get it” the guests were served cafeteria style, from the rear of a large chuck wagon laden with old pots and pans, a dinner bell and several lanterns. Following the dinner each table was given a chance to pantomime an event important to the history of that state. Prizes were given to the table depicting the most historical event, to the table giving their pantomime with the most dramatic action and to the table guessing the most pantomimes giv- J en by other states. /These prizes were then in turn presented to the mental health chairman to be used as Christmas gifts for the mental patients in Indiana. Square dancing was then enjoyed by the group, and was supervised by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Railing, guest entertainers from Fort Wayne. The committee in charge of the evening consisted of Mrs. ißuth Harper, Mrs. Katherine August, Mrs. Dorothy Schnepf, Mrs. Margaret Schnepf, and Miss Gwen Hili'ard. The next meeting will be a business meeting at the Youth and Community Center December 6. and will begin promptly at 7:30 o'clock. MRS. HERMAN DIERKES IS HOSTESS TO MEETING The Past Presidents’ Parley of the American Legion auxiliary unit 43 held their November meeting Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Herman Dierkes with 15 members present. During the short business sessidn, plans were made for the annual family Christmas party to be held December 11, with a 6 o’clock dinner. After the dinner a gift exchange will be held and the mystery pals’ names will be revealed. Thank you letters, received from the two nurses whom the parley is aiding financially, were read. MEETING IS HELD AT HOME OF MRS. HARVEY JONES The Gals and Pals home demonstration club met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Harvey Jones. Mrs. Wilfred Morrison, president, called the meeting to order. The club creed was then repeated in unison. Roll call was answered by naming one thing for which to be thankful for Thanksgiving Day. ■Mrs. Paul McCullough gave an interesting lesson on “Painting and Interior Decorating.” Plans were made for the Christmas exchange, to be held at the home of Mrs, Jack Longenbarger. Refreshments wefe served by the hostesses, Mrs. Bill Roughia and Mrs. Harvey Jones. ROSE GARDEN CLUB HOLDS MEETING RECENTLY The Rose Garden club met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Frank Crist. Twenty members answered roll call by naming a bird
found in the Bible. Mrs. Bert Haley presided over the business meeting. During her talk‘she stressed that unity was the keynote of pll clubs. Mrs. Grover Levy gave a paper on birds and told of tfieir many habits. Mrs. Paul Daniels conducted a bird contest and Mrs. Levy won the prize. The next meeting will be a Christmas party on December 13, at the Moose home, with a 12 o'clock dinner and a gift. exchange to be featured. At the close of the meeting, Mrs. Crist, assisted by Mrs. L. E. Archbold, served refreshments. PYTHIAN SISTERS AOLD ANNUAL INSPECTION The Pythian Sisters lodge held their annual inspection night Monday at the K. of P. home with 30 members and eight guests present. Roll was called and guests were present from Dixon, O.; Montpelier and Uniondale. Betty Zepher, past grand chief; Thelma Hickman, department grand chief; and Grace Weiland, grand senior, were present for the inspection. The Decatur staff put on the works and Boyd Rayer and Oren Stuits were initiated into the lodge. After the inspection, a lovely potluck dinner was served in the dining room of the K. of P. home. Mrs. Mary Ahr poured and the committee in charge included Bessie Beehler, Bernice Jeffreys, and Mabel Striker. WELCOME WAGON GROUP MEETS TUESDAY EVENING The Welcome Wagon club met at the home wf Mrs. Robert Macklin Tuesday evening at 7:30 o’clock. The club decided on a Christmas party to be held December 12. Members are asked to bring fruits and candy to be fixed in baskets for the county home people. The Christmas party will be held at the home qf Mrs. M. C. Seiling, and a gift exchange will be featured. During the social hour, games wpre played and prizes won by Mrs. Ralph Smith, Mrs. Kenneth Shannon, Mrs. Robert Macklin, Mrs. M. C. Seiling, and Mrs. Robert .Carlson. Refreshments were then served to the group by Mrs. Macklin and co-hostess, Mrs. Carlson. The Catholic Ladies of Columbia held a potluck supper Tuesday evening at the C. L. of C. hall. Following the supper games were played and prizes won by Ann Ginley, Carla Neering, Cecelia Ulman, and Clara Rumschlag. The committee in charge was Mrs. Clarence Black, chairmah; and Mrs. Mary Sorg, co-cljairman. » *- ‘Y The Ladles of the St. Paul’s Lutheran ’ chureh of Preble will sponsor a chicken and ham supper, served cafeteria style, fancy work and bake sale Sunday, November 20. with serving time beginning at 4; 30 o’clock. The Philathea class of the Baptist Sunday school will meet Friday evening at 7:30 o’clock with Mrs. Roy Johnson as hostess. A mlscellaneousi program will be featured and each member will be expected to contribute towards the program. All members are urged to attend this important meeting. The St. Vincent DePaul society will meet Wednesday. November 30, instead of November 16, at 2 o’clock at the C. L. of C. hall. Members are asked to bring canned goods to this meeting for the basket donation. The Decatur Weight Reducing club will meet Tuesday evening at S o’clock at 1127 Nuttman avenue. The Church Mother’s study club will meet with Mrs. Ray Lehman of 745 Parkview Drive, Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. The Rosary society will hold a regular meeting Monday evening at 8 o’clock at the K, of C. hall. Mrs. Mary Jane Saylors was hostess to the Research club Monday afternoon. Mrs. Harry Daily was program leader for the meeting and she read a very interesting paper on the life of Albert Sweitzer. Mrs. Myrtle Filson was welcomed into the club as a new member. After a short business meeting, Mrs. Saylors served delicious candies. Sgt. and Mrs .Wilford’ Baumgartner and their two sons are on their way home from Germany. Sgt. Baumgartner is a brother of Sgt. L«Roy Baumgartner, who was a prisoner of war, and they haven’t seen each other for seven years. Dr. and Mrs. R. K. Parrish left this morning for New" Orleans where they will attend a horse race Thursday evening in which their horse, Legal Counsel, will participate. Dr. and Mrs. Parrish will spend a fe<w days with friends and will return early next week. 4 - Miss Lorene Gelsel, of route 4. Decatur, underwent a major operation at the Wells county hospital. Bluffton, Tuesday. Fred Busche was guest speaker at the Methodist men’s meeting of the St. Paul Methodist church in Fort Wayne. The Rev. Christian Kocher showed pictures of his recent trip to Europe and the Holy Land. The Rev. Lyle Case is pastor of the St. Paul church. ‘Mr. and Mrs. Dick Barnes have returned home from California, where Barnes was stationed in the navy. Mrs. Barnes is the former Flossie Baumgartner. Girl Scouts Brownie troop three met at the Lincoln school recently. The meeting was opened with the Brownie promise and we made favors. Dues were then collected. Scribe: Patricia Hooper ■ w ' Girl Scout troop five opened tbeir meeting with collection of dues. We sang the “Deaf Woman’s Courtship,” and a grace song. We had our November party and hostesses were Mary Beth Snyder, Patty Cook and Mary Ellen Walters. We played one Mrs. Strickler gave us her adna Dalzell with a farewell gift. I Mrs. Strickler gave u sher address so we could write to her if we wanted a pen pal from Canada. We were assigned something to do to work on for a badge.
