from the air fare* in Dooembor. 1952. The high tribunal ruled In effect that the military services lack the authority to court martial a discharged serviceman for any crime committed while in the service. The army is studying the supreme court’s opinion, handed down Monday, before it decides what it will do about the five former POW’s. It refused to say whether the three turncoats will be exonerated. The three are Otho Bell, Hillsboro, Miss.; William C. Cowart, Dalton, Qa„ and Lewis W. Griggs, Jacksonville, Tex. The other two ex-POW’s are former Pvt. John D. Martin of Tnle Lake, Calif., and ex-Master Sgt. Edward C. Kirby of Council Bluffs, lowa. Both were accused of giving Information to the enemy in Korea. Army legs,! experts have already decided that the court’s opinion has no bearing on the cases of nine other ex-POW’s convicted by court martial of aiding the enemy. The army said none of these men was discharged before charges were brought against them. * BANK BANDIT (Continued From Page One) drove back to the cashier’s home. Mrs. McGinley was released while her husband was taken in his own car as a hostage. McGinley said he-escaped a mile south of Frankfort, 111., when a truck forced the bank robber to slow down. The cashier opened tltie door and rolled into the ditch. If you have something to sell or rooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad. It brings results.
