Our Preacher Says: The idea or sharing is fundamental in Christian philosophy. Possession of material wealth and other advantages is not sinful. But failure to recognize the obligation to give as freely as we have received is worthy of'utmost condemnation. Jesus said. I Comments Jm I On | LgRROnJunM Creamed comments on th* Sunday school lesson. Jesus Teaches How to Live. Luke 6:27-38, for Sunday, November 13. In thia lesson art presented the high ideals of ChristiaAity. ao high that there arises a call for transformation of character and ths abiding presence of God, the very lite of Christ enthroned within. Human nature can not love enemies. but God loves them. It la a question of self or Christ. The cure for selfishness is a Christcentefed. Christ-controlled life.. V. 27. "But I say unto yeu which hear, imve your enemies, do good to them that bate you." Thera are degrees of love. The lowest degree is love expressed la good will. A true Christian will wish that all may be well with his enemies. V. 28. “Bless them that curse yon and pray for them that despltefully use you." Human nature eta not do this. Jesus did it. and, to follow him. we. too. must do it. A Christ-prompted life produces a desire that one's enemies go to heaven and enables one to pray for them. V. 29. “And to him that smiteth thee on one cheek, offer also the other*;, and him that taketh away thy cloke. forbid not to take thy coat also.” Here Is presented an extreme illustration of the kind of spirit which a Christian should have. Caution needs to be exercised that a selfish, indolent man does not take undue advantage, else there would develop drones and paupers. A need to be supplied must always be a worthy one. V. 30. "Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods, ask them not again." Here again *e have a broad principle of unselfishness and liberality safely left to the (omsioti sense of mankind. V. 31. As ye would that men should do ye also to them likewise." Here is a fundamental principle on which each tame IJU put his program In all bls relations with others. It will help If we imagine ourselves In the. other man's place. » Vs-3243. ‘‘Fdt - if ye love them that love you. what thank have ye? fbr sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you. what thank have ye* for sinners also do the same." The standard of a Christian shotild be higher than the standard of sinners, through doing good to those Who treat us ill. V. 34. "And if ye lend to them ot whom ye hope td receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as tnuch again." There is nothing much to be said for one who sees a brother in need with little possibility of repaying making demands that there be repayment. Gifts to the worthy are commended. V. 35. “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall he great and ye shall be. children of the Highest: for he Is kind unto the unthankful and the evil." Matthew states that God is good to the evil in sending them sunshine and rain. We need to make it easy for the bad to be good whenever they show earnest desire to be good. It took the hog pen to cause the prodigal to come to himself and desire to go home. To have a part in the soul's homeromin is to be among the children ■>f the Highest. V.,16. "Be ye therefore merciful us your Father also is merciful." Christians should have pity and

"Judge not and ye shall hot be judged; condemn not and ye shall not be condemned; forgive Ind ye also shall ba forgiven." Christians should take the initiative in righting wrongs. Forgiving enemies has a melting effect on those in the wrong. Forgiving enemies is Wbrth taking a risk. just as God too a risk when he sent his Son into the world to offer forgiveness to all sinners. As to the matter of judgment. John 7:24 teaches that a righteous judgment of others is not forbidden so long as it is made with a forbearing and tender spirit. V. 38. "Give and it shall be given unto you. good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal, shall it be measured to you again." Here is taught the value of a generous nature.—-The Rev. D. Carl Yoder. —Based on copyrighted outlines produced by the Division of Christian Education, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A., and used by permission. At a recent meeting of the World Council of Churches, the Ctatral Committee accepted the invitation of the Hungarian churches to hold its next annual meeting there next year, or in the near future. It will meet in the United States in 1957, and probably oh the island of Rhodes in 1958. But next year, it will meet in Communist Hungary. By this decision, the executive agency of the council has told the world that it does not intend to allow political or social barriers to balk the spread of tbe ecumenical movement. At the first sign of lessening cold war tension, the World Council has voted to make this spectacular gesture of fellowship with the churches in Communist areas. The effect on Protestantism in Hungary will be very great and all to the good. Considered along with the letter sent from Davos to the Russian Orthodox church, inviting that body to reconsider its rejection of fellowship with the World Council, the decision to hold the Central Committee meeting next year in Hungary is a welcome augury that dose communications can be established among all non-Roman churches, east and west. It is increasingly clear that the big task of the World Council during its first quarter-centuary is to make acquaintance and fellowship among the non-Roman communions a living thing. The decision reached at Davos points in the right direction.
