Scores Republicans For Pushing Ike Illinois Senator Scores Attitude WASHINGTON (INS) —Sen. Paul Douglas (D III.), said today that if Republicans push President Elsenhower into running for reelection “they ought to be indicted for murder In the first degree." The Democrat’s statement was made In the wake of recent predictions by some ranking Republicans that there is a good chance Mr. Eisenhower will seek a second term if he recovers fully from his heart attack. In the Democratic political pictnre, Pennsylvania's youthful Gov. George M. Leader called Adlai Stevenson the strongest candidate and suggested Sen. Estes Kefauver of Tennessee as a running mate. Douglas said of the President's dilemma: "The choice is for him to make. If the Republicans force him into the race they ought to be indicted for murder in the first degree.” Most Republican leaders on capital hill will be frankly surprised if the chief executive decides to ...CEfirAINLY! run tor a second term. Thejt M* Here his Soptembar coronary attack completely changed the presidential picture-and their belief is shared by most Democrats. But Sen. Frank Carlson (B Kan.), personal political adviser to Mr. Eisenhower in his 1962 campaign, joined the ranks of those who fe<l the President will run if bis recovery is complete. Carlson said he shared the feeling of house GOP leader Joseph W. Martin (R Mass.), that the President will "heed the call" of the country. INDIANA IS (Continued From Page One) tlon. The legislators could be guided by results of a state-wide referendum on the time question to be held in connection with the November, 1956 general election. The 1955 session ordered the referendum to dodge the hot time issue, but the lawmakers refused to bind themselves to act in accordance with the result of the referendum. Central standard time the year round was decreed by the legislature many years ago, but the law has no teeth and has been ignored. Hence, many hundreds of city officials who have voted from time to time tor fast time are technical law breakers. Most fanners favor permanent slow time and the city dwellers have battled for the fast schedule. A forceful argument of the daylight time bloc has been that street and highway accidents will be less numerous because Hoosiers will be going home from work in daylight hours of the afternoon. It remains to be seen whether this contention will be verified in the fast time sone. SPIRITUAL (Contlnuea from Pare One) tional singing.
