Evidence Heard On Drainage Petition Objections Made To Ditch Assessments Evidence in the Fred Stoppenhagen petition for drainage which three Adams county persons are fighting, has been submitted in three days of hearing in Adams, Circuit court this week. Remonstrances against the petition were filed by Hanna Scheumab and Elton Rupright. whq are represented by Hubert McClenahan. and Edwin Reifsteck, whosfe attorney is Ferd Litterer. The petitioner is represented by Severin Schurger. The remonstrators are objecting to the assessment on the drain which they allege is greater than the benefits which will be received. The court has requested the counsels for petitioner and remonstrator to submit briefs of their arguments by Nov. 15. The final arguments will be submitted Nov. zi. The drain which is the object of the controversy, is in Wells county just west of Preble township. It affects about 110 acres in Adams county. In face of his MolojoV cat-and-mouse game the West was in no htarry to make another bid although it had in reserve suggestions for a European security system embracing a score of nations but not all of Europe. Although this plan would be the closest to the one proposed by the Soviet diplomat it was known that the Western ministers feel if the Big Three were to accept his plan he wotild find a new excuse not to join them in a realistic solution. See Possibility Os Toll Phone Strike Negotiations Are Underway Today NEW YORK (INS) — Contract negotiations affecting some 23.000 long distance telephone workers in 41 states will resume late today following recess called at 12:30 a.fn., a half-hour after the old pact expired. Though there has been no talk of a strike during the mohth-long negotiations. a union spokesman conceded there was “some risk" that the CIO Communication Workers might walk off their jobs over the weekend. It was learned that just before recess, negotiators for the American Telephone & Telegraph Co. offered to continue the expiring contract until a new agreement was reached. i A union spokesman said one of the most important issues was a “no ktrike ” clause the company insisted on setting. Another was a move by the A. T. & T. to eliminate a “maintenance of dues" clause in the old contract as an “undue burden on the company.” St Louis — The Mississippi. Missouri and Rio Grande, in that order, are the three longest rivers in the United States.
