Urges Land Reform Program In Nation More Demands Made For Benson Ouster MINOT. N. D. (INSI — V. S. senators heard * .North Dakota farmer prophesy today that the nation is due for ‘some kind of land reform program.” Oswald K. Opnaug of Nelson county made this prediction in testimony prepared for hearing by the senate agriculture committee in a 17 state tour to find out what sort of legislation farmers want. OphattK. along with other members of the Farmers' Union, which is particularly strong in North Dakota. also renewed demands heard Tuesday in Worthington, Minn . for the ouster of secretary of agriculture Ezra Taft Benson. Another anti-Benson witness was Robert E. Lee of Larimore. N. I)., who said: “I've got a bad case of Benson blues.” Testimony showed a large number of farmers in Minot, as in other hearings this week, favoring a federal land rental program and a restoration of rigid price supports, either at SO or 100 per cent of parI ity. But Ophaug was the first witness out of more than 200 heard by the committee to suggest land reform. He declared: "I think we are due for some sort of ‘land reform' or some plan which will distribute the ownership of land more tably.•'We will always have a ‘farm problem’ if we have three classes of farmers even with a good farm program.” Ophaug asked for Benson's resignation “because of hit attitude toward the farm problem which we teel does not serve the general national interest." Can county Farmers Union— "if you don't atop this sliding acale program It will continue to take farmer after farmer as reserves are used up.” Auto Owner Sought For Questioning Sought As Suspect In Triple Slayings CHICAGO (INS) —The owner of a battered blue car was nought for questioning today in the slayings of three Chicago boys. The car, a 1952 sedan, was found abandoned Thursday. In the auto was an assortment of clothing, including three pairs of blue Jeans and a flannel shirt. Ownership was traced to John Svehla, 35, a former mental patient. * A battered blue car was seen in Robinson's woods forest preserve Oet. 18 near where the nude, beaten and strangled bodies of the three boys were discovered some 36 hours after they hftd been killed. The victims were Robert Peterson. 14, John Schuessler, 13, and his brother. Anton, 11. The parents of the victims viewed the garments Thursday night and said they did not belong to their sons. U.S. Credit Policy Being Reexamined Holt Is Called On Tightening Supply WASHINGTON (INS) —The Eis-i enhower administration has called a halt on any further lightening of the nation's money supply until | government economists can determine more clearly whether the business boom will fade or move higher. This was revealed today by sources in a position to speak with authority. They- said the administration's entire credit policy is being reexamined. and that credit easing measures are under consideration,. Officials said the decision has been ma<T£, as yet, to reverse the administration's tight money policy. But they explained that this, is a period for marking time until there is clearer evidence of the business outlook.
