It is estimated that more than 2,000 Decatur people attended church last Sunday. If yon were not one of these persons, you are missing a good chance to start the week in a most proper way. First snow flakes of the year fell Monday afternoon. It won’t be long now until Christmas. Plan to shop in Decatur and watch yonr shopping dollars go farther. .—o Workmen are putting in long days in an effort to complete the new Northwest elementary school by the middle of November and indications are that the new modern school will be ready for occupancy about that time. Long awaited ceiling material is here and is now being erected. Pupils assigned to the new building Jia ve been crowded in Lincoln school, the library and the high school buildings. Soon they Will have their own building and own rooms. “ o o— Two weeks from today the people of Decatur get the opportunity to select their officials tor the next four years. It is a great American privilege and the duty of every good citizen. Both major political parties, the Democrats and Republicans, have nominated a full ticket, and both parties have established downtown headquarters. The last two weeks should be interesting and the people should be well stocked with pros and cone by election day. ■- .... . a. Bellmont park is one of the prettiest spots in northern Indiana during the fall weeks. Hum dreds of trees along the park’s outer borders make a picture In colors only the finest artist could paint. All four sides of the beautiful park are lined with old trees and there is enough green left in the interior of the park to make the picture complete. o o The cold snap should make us think of winter and the heavy clothing which we need to wear through the approaching .winter months. When you think of your winter needs, remember, Decatur has many retail stores featuring all the latest winter wearing apparel and at prices which win please the buyers. A visit to Decatur’s stores will convince you that your shopping dollars will get you more for your money. Trade in Docatur and be satisfied. o o If It takes more Income in the water department for residents of the city to have soft water every day of the year, maybe It would be a good progressive move to investigate the possibility of providing more income for that department. Only a fraction of the residents of Decatur get the benefit regularly. Others have to provide their own water softener or subscribe to a softening service. Both of the latter plans are costly. The Softening plant, heralded as "continued progress” is here and paid for. If only additional salt is needed to make It work, surely the people won’t object, (if consulted) it the city buys that salt. -—o o— Mrs. Mirrfam Hall, Democratic candidate for clerk-treasurer, in a talk to women last week, emphasized the importance which women play in the operation of our (government. Mrs. Hall urged that• more women become interested in politics and political offices. The prominent Decatur woman is well qualified for the office she seeks. She has had auditing and book-keeping experience and also ) experience as a secretary. She said in her talk that she is seeking the office because she feels sure she is qualified to carry out the duties of the office. We believe that if Mrs. Hall is elected, the city’s clerk-treasurer department will be in excellent hands.
