Picks Upsets To Feature In Weekend Tilts (Editor’s note: Harry Wismer, with a phenomenal .857 batting average in his college football predictions to date - 30 right, five wrong-herewith presents his selections in this week’s major games.) By HARRY WISMER Famous Sports Commentator (Copyright, 1955, by I. N. S.) Look for the upset in college football this weekend. If you think form has taken a beating so far, you haven’t seen anything yet. I predict that Michigan and Notre Dame, two of the most high-ly-touted teams in the land, will join he list of upset victims this wekeend. Here are my choices in top college games: Army 20, Michigan 14. . . A week ago I predicted Michigan would sneak past inexperience Michigan State by only one touchdown. That is just what happened. This Saturday, powerful Army moves from the plains of West Point to the rolling hills of Ann Arbor and should really come into its own 4n one of the great games of the year. Miami 17, Notre Dame 14. . . This Friday night game in the Orange Bowl has been sold out since June. Notre Dame has shown unexpected strength in winning its first two games. Miami lost a close one in its opener with powerful Georgia Tech. 1 pick Miami’s well-rounded squad to take advantage of the great opportunity for an upset here. UCLA 28, Oregon State 14. ■ .Despite their early loss to Maryland, the UCLAns still are one of the nation’s best. Texas Christian 17, Alabama 3. . The Crimson Tide has shown very little thus far. Oklahoma 14, Texas 7. . .No Jomp for the Sooners. Michigan State 13. Stanford®. . . The Indians upset Ohio State last week but can't tie the can to the Big Ten wice in succession. Wisconsin 10, Purdue 7. . .Two strong teams. Duke 14, William and Mary 7. . . The colorful Blue Devils get the mod in ,a thriller. Georgia Tech 20, LSU 10. . . Unbeaten Tech has survivied bigger tests, and I can’t see where the string will be broken here. Baylor 14, Arkansas 7. . . Bears bounce back after last week's loss to Maryland. Southern California 21, Washington T. . .Trokans will have their hands full, but they are my choice. Navy 21, Pitt 12. Middies should remain undefeated, but they’ll know they've been in a fight.

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE Chicago Bears 24, San Francisco 21. . .Neither has won a game and the edge goes to the home team. Detroit 30, Los Angeles 27. . . Again the home field advantage should enable the LiOhs to bounce back from two -straight losses. I Washington 20, Chicago Cardinals 14. . . Redskins to win third straight. Pittsburgh 24, New York 21. . . Giants haven’t won a game yet. and won’t take this one, either. Cleveland JH, Philadelphia 28. . A head-on dash to be heard clear across Lake Erie. Otto Graham is the difference. Lane New General Manager Os Cards ST. LOUIS (INS) — The St. Louis Cardinals today faced their baseball future with a brand new general manager. He is Frank Lane, late of the Chicago White Sox where he earned the name "Trader Lane” for his vigorous program of acquiring new ball players. TRUCE EFFORTS (Continued from Five One) might be as dangerous as toasjni! a match into a strawstack. 1 know the governor feels the same way I do.” Lieut. Gov. Harold W. Handley blamed the governor for the collapse of peace negotiations, saying: i "The collapse is the unfortunate consequences of the governor's action in calling out the national guard Wednesday night by long distance telephone from 1,000 miles away without giving negotiators a chance to work out a peaceful settlement.” Attorney general Edwin K. Steers said the state might be liable to law suits from the Perfect Circle' Corporation, the union or anyone else damaged by presence of the militia, if the guardsmen have been called out illegally. He said: "The governor should exercise the sovereign function of the state. If he is not here, he should act through the lieutenant governor rather than through an employe who is not elected, not sworn to fulfill his duty and not under bond.” ADMITTED TO (Continued from Page One 2 fiajf was recited by the five new citizens in unison with all of those present in the court room and the playinig jof the national anthem concluded the ceremony.

Rugged Tests Scheduled On College Grids NEW YORK (INS) — Big and rugged tests cover the nation’s gridirons like an electric blanket this weekend and some of the high and mighty college football powers may be In for a shock. It all starts tonight when surprising Notre Dame, eo-ranked fourth in International News Service's survey, meets strong Miami in the Orange Bowl, and U.C.L.A. rated sixth, hosts Oregon State at Los Angeles. Another game tonight pits Missouri against Southern Methodist. The fur and everything else is expected to fly Saturday in a nationwide deluge of important contests. Topranked ’Michigan probably has the most difficult task of all. The Wolverines are at home in Ann Arbor stadium against fifthrated Army and Coach Earl Blaik's Black Knights are just dozing with scoring might. While Maryland, the No. 2 team, figures to be too strong against Wake Forest at the Terps’ home field, Oklahoma and Southern California are likely to encounter stern opposition. The Sooners, rated third, visit Texas and the Trojans, who share fourth slot with Notre Dame, pay a call on upset-minded Washing--400; Georgia Tech, No. 7, has a night date at Louisiana State. Eighth-ranked Navy gets Pitt at Baltimore, ninth-slotted Wisconsin visits Purdue and tenth-rated Texas Christian pays a call on Alabama. This is just a little portion of a big package of conference and inter-sectional struggles. Some of the bigger jousts find Stanford at Michigan State, Indiana at lowa, Illinois at Ohio State. Minnesota at Northwestern. Auburn at Kentucky, Wm. and Mary at Duke, Texas A. and M. at Ne- ' braska. Penn State at Virginia. lowa State at Kansas, Houston at Detroit. Holy Cross at'Colgate.
