Complete Petitions For Testing Cattle Brucellosis Tests \ Underway In County As the result of a cooperative effort on the part of the Adams county brucellosis committee and the township brucellosis control oothmitteez, the petitions required by law to start testing cattle for brucellosis have been completed. The response to the petitions has been good, with many people expressing their Intense desire to have the work of cleaning up started as soon as possible. Actual testing started September 15 in several townships, with others to follow soon. The test Is being run on all eligible cattle. The cattle which do not have to be tested are: (1) Calves under 6 months of age. (2) Officially calfhood vaccinated heifers under Yfears of age. (3) Steers. (4) Cattle of beef breeds under feeder permit. which are under 18 months of age. This latter group of cattle must be held separate and apart from all breeding stock, and must have a permit and quarantine on them. Indemnity is available for payment, to the owners of eligible rei acting cattle. This indemnity will aid the owner in replacing a diseased animal with one that is healthy and much more profitable,

In addition to the indemnity program, the herds of cattle where infection is found will be eligible for retesting service at no extra expense. This service will allow the herd where reactors are found to be retested until the whole herd has two clean blood tests. This additional testing will Insure the herd owner that his herd Is clean, and will uncover any additional cattle which may have contracted the disease. All the expense of testing, branding and tagging of reactors, and retesting will be borne by the county, state and federal governments. There is no expense to the owner. The owner is required to present his whole herd of eligible cattle for testing, and to give the veterinarian aid and assistance in testing
