PRESBYTERIAN FAIR SET
FOR NOVEMBER 30 Wednesday. November 30, has been designated as the date for the annual all-day fair by the fair committee of the Women's association of the First Presbyterian church. Plans have been formulated for several new items as well as the ever popular apronsTheedlework, dolls, stuffed animals and children's toys. The public is invited to attend the noon lunch and evening dinner to be served in the church basement. Mrs. Charles Magley and Mrs. R. C. Hersh are in charge of the preparation of the meals. Mrs. Chalmer Deßolt and Mrs. Cecil Melchi will direct the serving of the food in the dining room. Mrs. Bud Townsend will be in charge
of desserts and salads. Mrs., Jack Knudsen and Miss Dianne Linn are co-chairmen for the booths which will be set up on the first floor of the church. The cooperation of the following chairmen promises to make this year’s fair an outstanding one: (General decorating, Mrs. Lawrence Linn arid Mrs. lx>ls Black; snack bar, Mrs. Lowell Harper and Mrs. Dick Heller: apron booth, Mrs. H. CLARENCE SMITLEY IS HOSTESS TO MEETING The Decatur home demonstration club met recently at the home of Mrs. Clarence Smitley, with 32 members present. The meeting was opened by the group repeating the club creed and singing the club song. The safety lesson was given by Mrs. Gerald Durkin and a report was presented on the trip to Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Carl Barnett arid Mrs. Walter Lister gave and demonstrated an interesting lesson. A social hour followed with Mrs. Ralph E. Roop, Mrs. 0. G. Baughman, Mrs. Frank Fisher, nad Mrs. Wilson Reed assisting the,, hostess. MOTHERS STUDY CLUB HOLDS RECENT MEETING AT CHURCH Mothers study club met recently at the First Methodist church. Devotions were given by Mrs. Ernest Atkinson and the lesson entitled "Children Need to Understand Their Feelings,” was presented by Mrs. Erman Johnson. Mrs. Arthur Beeler gave two short articles from the "Christian Home,” entitled "Parents and Their Schools/’ and "So Your Child Isn’t a Genius.” At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served to the 20 members and nine guests present. Hostesses included the Mqs«dam«£ .. Deltuar Van Horn, John Beery, Hollis Bonifas, Vincent Parker, and Roland Ross. HISTORICAL CLUB HAS OPENING MEETING The Historical club held their opening meeting Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Delton Passwater with a 12 o’clock luncheon. RUTH AND NAOMI CIRCLES HOLD MEETING RECENTLY A meeting was recently held by the Ruth and Naomi circle of the Zion E. and R. church at the home of Mrs. Rufus Kirchpfer. A potluck dinner was served at noon and 17 members and four'puests were present. Mrs. Floyd Shoaf was program leader for the afternoon, presenting a very interesting topi? entitled "Our Young People, pur Hope to Come.” Mrs. Tony Mey« rß As ve a book review entitled "Strengthening the Spiritual Life.” During the business meeting, plans were made for the mission festival which will be held Sunday, October 9 and also a bazaar to be held Saturday morning, October 29. The hostess was assisted by Mrs. Emma Baumgartner. Tri Kappa sororliy will meet Tuesday evening at the Youth and Community Center at 7:30 o’clock. Members are reminded to bring their constitutions and that dues are payable. A Practice for all children of the Bethany E. U. B. church, for the summer Christmas tree program, will be held Saturday afternoon at 12:30 o’clock instead of 1:30 o’clock because of a funeral at the church. The Monmouth Mothers study club will meet at the school Monday evening at 7:30 o’cloek. — Xi Alpha lota exemplar and Epsilon Sigma chapters of Beta Sigma Phi met at the Elks home Wednesday, evening. Games were played and prizes were won by Mrs. LaVonne Hobbs, Mrs. Ida Holthouse and Mrs. Verena Meyers. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Ida Holthouse and Mrs. Janice Schulte. A business meeting will be held by the Catholic Ladies of Columbia Tuesday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the C. L. of C. hall. The Eta Tau Sigma sorority will meet with Mrs. Leo Faurote Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Lloyd Cowens will be hostess to the opening meeting of the Research club Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The Adams courfty chorus will have a party and chorus practice Megflpy evening at 7 o’clock at the Farm Bureau building in Monroe. Guests are invited to this meeting. On Thursday at 8 o’clock, the Great Books discussion group will meet at the public library. A chicken supper and bazaar will be held at the Hoagland Methodist church op October 8. Supper will be served from 5 until 7:30 o’clock and prices are adults $1 and children 50 cents.
The Women’s guild of the Zion E. and R. church will meet in the church parlors Wednesday evening at 7:30 o’clock. The St. ‘Paul ladies aid met at the home of Mrs. Dan Neireiter recently with the president opening the meeting, followed by prayer offered by Mrs. Floyd Arnold. A potluck dinner was served at noon to 11 members, five children, and five visitors.
