BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (INS) — Good times are in store tor Hoosiers during the next few months, according to the Indiana business review of Indiana University. But the farmers are the exception tb the rule. The review said: "Indiana has participated in the steady upswing in economic activity. But the farm community in Indiana, as in the rest of the country, has not participated in the general economic recovery. Farm income in this state and nationally has continued to slide toward lower levels throughout the year.” But the review sees some clouds on the horison. It said: “To a very considerable extent, the present boom has been based upon production and pale of con sumer durable goods and housing construction, both of‘ which have been financed on relatively easy credit terms so far as down payment and repayment periods are concerned.” The review added that the recent action of the federal reserve system in raising discount rediscount rates twice in recent months and restrictions being placed by the Federal Home Loan Bank on savings and loan associations in lending for home construction will tend to slow credit expansion and reduce consumer sales. The review also said: “The inevitable attempt to pass a salary and wage increase to buyers in the form of higher prices may also operate adversely on the total quantity of goods which can be sold.” New York —- When the trans-At-lantic cable was opened in 1858, the first messages to be exchanged were between President Buchanan and Queen Victoria of England.
