DO YOUR BEST CLASS MEETS AT CHURCH The Do Ydhr Best class of the Trinity E U. B. church met Thursday evening in the church basenient, for a regular meeting. The meeting was opened with the singing of several hymns followed by devotions by Mrs. Frank Bohnke who rear the 4th chapter of Luke and commented on it. She al.stf read a poem ‘‘What is Home without the Bible?” Mrs. Fannie Hitchcock then led In prayer, followed by group singing. * " The president, Mrs. Ralph Roop, had t?ie business meeting the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. It was announced that 38 calls were made during the last month and 65 sick cards were sent out. A new member, Mrs. Walter Roop, was welcomed into the class. Refreshments were served to 22 members and one guest by the hostesses, Mrs. Clarice Hill, Mrs. Fannie Hitchcock, and Mrs. Tillie Hurst. Marie' Deßolt then closed the meeting with prayer. ’-.s Hostesses for next month will be Mrs. Frank Kitson, Mrs. Nina Light, and Sirs. Earl Mounsey. Entertainment will be provided by Mrs. Georgia Gage and Mrs. Bertha Hakey. COUPLE TO CELEBRATE 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. William Sowards of Tocsin will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with open house at their home, Sunday afternoon. Friends and neighbors have been invited to call. Mr. and Mrs. Sowards were married September 16. 1906, at the parsonage of the Rev. Henry Smith of Tocsin. They have two sons, Marvin of Linnwopd, Calif., and Robert of Ossian, They also have one granddaughter. The couple has lived in Wells county their entire life. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sowards and daughter, will honor the couple with an anniversary dinner at 6 o’clock Sunday at their home in Ossian. WINTER SKATING SEASON IS OPENED The Happy Hours roller rink opened the winter skating season with a “Back to School Party", Thursday. Preparations are being made for the next monthly skating party, which will be a Halloween party. ZION MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS The Zion Lutheran missionary society held their first fall meeting Wednesday afternoon in the parish hall. Dessert was served by the hostesses, after which the opening devotion was given by Rev. Schmidt. He led the discussion on “The Missionary Power of- the Christian Life.” The business meeting was conducted by Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg, at which time it was announced that the northern Indiana pastoral conference would be held at the Zion church on October 27 and 28. There will also be a mission Sunday dinner, October 9, with the annual voters’ meeting following it, and the missionary society will arrange entertainment for the ladies and children during the •meeting. Sunday, September 18, will be Lutheran child welfare day. Mrs. Theodore Witte will be in charge of memberships. After the business session games were enjoyed. The feature of the program was “Hobbies,” and each lady told of her leisure time activities. The meeting closed with the Lord's prayer. Hostesses .included the Mesdames Henry Krueckeberg, Phil Sauer. Hugh Engle. L. Ellsworth and Mi s s Minnie Steele.

EPSILON SIGMA CHAPTER MEETS AT THE ELKS The Epsilon Sigma chapter of BeU Sigma Phi held their first mating of the year recently at the Elks home. The meeting was opened with the opening ritual. The* chairmen of the’various com-, mittees gave reports for the coming year. The cultural program for the evening included “Introductions and Invitations,” by Doris Reed; “Your Day Socially.” by Virginia Shufeldt; and ‘'Your Poise and Charm.” by Alice Harmon. Xi Alpha lota exemplar chapter will meet with Epsilon Sigma chapter September 28, for a social meeting. The meeting was closed with the closing ritual and refreshments were served by Mrs. Bonnie Werling.. PYTHIAN SISTERS HOLD FRIENSHIP NIGHT RECENTLY Approximately 125 attended the Pythian Sister's friendship night. The meeting was opened by th° most excellent chief. Vera Barber. FRIENDSHIP VILLAGE CLUB HOLDS MEETING The Friendship Village home demonstration qlub met Thursday morning at the Kimsey school, in Blue Greek township. From there Urey motored to «the Ruby Dudgeon _cabin of antiques south of Willshire. Ohio. After touring the cabin, they enjoyed a potluck-dinner. In the afternoon, the group returned to the school, where the president. Mrs. Chester Bryan, was in •charge. Miss Donelda Marckel read the history of the song of the month, and then the group sang, “School Days", and Mrs* Fred Free wait gave the devotions. Mrs. Charles Myers and Mrs. William Neadstine completed the lesson on “Making Purses.” Mrs. Austin Merriman gave the health lesson on “School Health.” Twenty-eight members answered the roll call which was "My Summer Vacation.” The minutes were j read by Mrs. Paul Burkhart, and approved by the group. After the. business meeting was completed. : the collect was read in unison for : dismissal. Mrs. Leßoy Bollenbacher won the ,1 door prize. The hostesses, Mrs. Huldah Tickle. Mrs. Rue Strayer,! ANNUAL CONVENTION IS HELD BY W. C. T. U. The Adams county W. C. T. U. held tieir annual convention Wednesday at the Evangelical and Reforemd church in Berne. The Morning session was opened with hymns sung by the group. Mrs. Neuenschwander brought another message In song, “Speak My Imrd.” In closing the group formed the friendship circle and sang “Blest be the Tie.” Mrs. Shudy led the group In the closing prayer. B. P. W. CLUB ENJOY CHICKEN DINNER The Business and Professional Women’s club ehjoyed a delicious chicken dinner Wednesday evening at Hanha-Nuttman park. This was followed by a buslnes meeting conducted by the president, Miss Rosemary Spangler. Reports of the various committees were given and the budget for the coming year was discussed and approved. A donation was given to the Decatur Youth and Community center. A report was given on the regional officers, meeting which was held at Marion, 'Sunday, September 11. Members were urged to observe national Business W’omen's week, September 25 to October 1. Initiation was held for Mrs. Mary Jane Clark, Mrs. Jollie Keliley and Miss Dorothy Schnepf. Following the meeting the finance committee, consisting of Miss Mary C. Spangler, Rosemary Miller, and Eleanor Bieberich, entertained with a “Back to Schoo! party.” Mrs. Doty won the prize for the mother goose story. This was followed by a showing of pictures of Colorado by Rosemary Miller. The next meeting will be in charge of the international relations committee with Mrs. Lucile Beavers, chairman, and Mrs. Opal Drum assisting.

The C. Y. A. of Fort Wayne, under the direction of the Rev. Eugene Zimmerman, will entertain the Rosary society Monday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the K. of C. hall. Entertainment will follow the business meeting and then refreshments will be served by Mrs. Dutch Baker and her committee. Mrs. Melvin Luhman and Mrs. Charles Chew, color bearers for the American Legion auxiliary, took part in the recent installation of officers for the auxiliary. Their names were from the article in Thursday's edition. The V. F. W. ladies auxiliary will have a business meeting Monday evening at 8 o’clock" at the post home. ,°\ The Order of the Eastern Star will observe their annual friend’s night on Thursday at 7:30 o'clock in the Masonic hall. All members are urged to attend. The Ruth circle of the Presbyterian church met Wednesday evening at the home of Elizabeth Hersh.
