RECEPTION IS HELD AT HANN A-NUTTMAN PARK The members and friends of the Nuttman Avenue United Brethren church held a reception for the Rev. and Mrs. Paul Parhe’r at HannarNuttman park Tuesday evening. Rev. Parker has been returned to the church for the third year. A picnic supper was enjoyed and a program consisting of choruses, solos, duets and readings, was presented by several members. Rev. and Mrs. Parker were presented with a gift from the congregation. The Tri Kappa sorority will have a business meeting Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the Community Center. « — The Catholic 1-aoies of Columbia will have a business meeting Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock in the C. J. C. Sutton, proprietor of Sutton’s Jewelry etore and two of his employes, Mrs. Robert Thompson and Mrs. Wayne Ford, spent today in Chicago buying fall and winter merchandise for the Sutton store. Pau] Gorb, who came to Adams county several years ago from Ukrania, seems to have done alright. He purchased the 70-acre farm of the late “Wid” Michaels at i auction Saturday, paying $28,140 or $402 per acre for it. George A. Hurst, 69, of Portland, former police chief and former game warden for counties in this territory, died Tuesday. The widow and five sons, including one from Adams county, Jack Hurst, of Geneva, and one daughter survive. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon. Albert Keller, Jr., has resigned from the Republican city ticket at Bluffton, leaving only one candidate on the ticket, John Schrieber, candidate-at-large. Telma A. Butcher, who says she is the common law wife of Harold Butcher, has filed suit for divorce and 420,000 alimony in Jay county court. The Geneva and Hartford township bands are taking part in the Indiana state fair at Indianapolis today. Discuss Indiana Hunting Seasons INDIANAPOLIS (INS) Hoosiers sportsmen congregated in the offices of the Indiana conservation department today to discuss the 1955 hunting of pheasant, deer and rabbit. Director Harley <l. Hook was in charge of the,three separate meetings which began wiith pheasant at 10 a.m., followed with a discussion of the deer season, and ended with a talk on rabbits. 676 Traffic Deaths To Date In Indiana INDIANAPOLIS (INS) The Indiana staie Police today reported that 676 persons were killed through Aug. 28 in Indiana compared to 673 deaths for the same period last year.
