Reserve Airman To Contest Discharge Ex-Red Father Is Cause Os Problem SHARON, Pa. (INS) —A 22 year old Farrell Air Force reservist said today he will fight dishonorable dismissal from the Air Force on a charge that his father was once a Communist. The airman, Stephen Brantvich, declared: "I will accept nothing less than honorable discharge tor honorable service.” He added that he was never a Communist, and neither was his father, who is uncurably ill and recently had a leg amputated. The specific charge against young Branzovich, now employed as a gas meter reader, states: “You have maintained a close continuing association with your father, Charles Branzovich, who is reported to have been, in 1943, and for an unspecified time thereafter, a member or close affiliate of the Communist party, at or near Pittsburgh and Sharon, Pa.” Branzovich said that apparently the charge stems from his father’s union activities in 1950 while a member of Local 2218 of the United Steelworkers. He said that his father was completely cleared of charges of Communist sympathy at a union hearing at that time and later was elected chairman of the grievance committee. “Now this comes up,” young Branzovich said, “and it was bard for me to decide whether to risk disgrace by bringing it out in the open, or to keep quiet and accept dishonor unjustly.” He said that what makes it so hard is that he is “fighting a ghost.” He added: “They won't tell you who your accusers are. Some informer is responsible, but w'ho or what the circumstances are, you never know.” Branzovich told of being InterJ viewed by the Office of Security Investigation last January. He said: “I was interviewed or, to be specific, interrogated, for two days. They said my father was a Communist and 1 denied this emphatically. 1 was told I had a very uncooperative attitude.”

The airman said that he had answered every question that he possibly could. He said that he had enlisted in the Air Force, that he was not drafted, and that he tried to the best of his ability to be a competent soldier. LIVESTOCK CHICAGO (INS) Liv.estick: Hogs 20.
