President Returns To Vacation Land Mrs. Eisenhower Joins Her Husband DENVER (INS) —President Eisenhower resumer his Colorado “vacation” today after two days of directing emergency aid for the flood ravaged Northeast and delivering a Philadelphia speech laying down a “no appeasement" formula for world peace. The Chief Executive flew back to his Denver headquarters Wednesday night with Mrs. Eisenhoweij whom he picked up at the White House en rouW from Philadelphia in his personal plane, the Columbine M-. The first lady, who has been relaxing in her air conditioned farm home in Gettysburg, Pa., expects to remain in Denver for the rest of her husband's work and play vacation, which will probably last until about mid October, Mr. Eisenhower planned to report back to work at his summer White House office early this morning to clean up the paper work which piled up during his absence, ' Washington — Population of the U. 1 Dulles Plans Same Anti-Red Address Will Follow Lead Os No-Appeasement WASHINGTON (INS) — Secretary of State John Foster Dulles will follow up President Eisenhower’s ‘‘straight from the shoulder" i declaration of what Russia must 1 do to maintain the current EastWest spirit of friendship. i Dulles makes a major foreign I policy address, Friday before the Council of Foreign Relations in New York. The State Department said only that the Secretary would talk about “certain aspects of U. S. foreign policy.” But he will presumably discuss in detail the joints raised by the Chief Executive Wednesday in his Philadelphia speech before.-the American Bar Association. In that address, Mr. Eisenhower frankly told the Soviet Union that the free world is still waiting for basic gestures of friendliness —an end to World-wide Communist subversion and violation of human rights. Cost Is Reduced In State Welfare Less Aid is Given Hoosiers During July INDIANAPOLIS (INS) Administrator Richard H. Schweitxer, Jr.. of the Indiana Department of Public Welfare, reported today that 82.159.499 was expended in July tor aid to dependent children, blind and the aged. The aid went to 61,004 persons. This was |10,807 lees than the cost of the June aid, and 333 fewer persons. However payments for medical care, not included In the two million dollars, went up 8197 to a total of 8511,424 tor July. The total amount of assistance remains at about the saipe level as a year ago, when 82,101,496 was spent. Direct medical care mounted 10.5 per cent from a year ego's payments. In the three categories under 'which welfare is received from the department, the breakdown is: Old Age Assistance: A total of 3'6,551 persons received an average of 837.11. or a total of 81.356,479. ‘Assistance to Dependent Children: A total of 8714,406 went to 22,666 children and 7,907 eligible needy relatives. ' Blind Assistance: Payments of 888.614 went to 1.767 persons. Much of the percentage increase for direct medical care was in this category where the Jump was 19 per cent over the previous month and 27.3 per cent over the cost in July, -954. 41 By actual expenditure, of course, the aged, who got 8423,367 in direct medical care, received Die largest amount. More than 1,000 delegates representing every state in the union, are intown for ths meeting, which will continue for six days. Mrs. Glenn G. Hays of Evanston, 111., national president of the WCTU. called home drinking the nation's No. 1 temperance problem. She accused radio and television comercials of turning home ice biases “into gars."
