BOARD OF HEALTH (Continued from Page One) may end up with higher percentages than Elkhart, a larger county. Dr. Anderson explained that the main reason tor the pick-up of extra vials of the vaccine was because the material is dated and the NFIP has asked that they be used before those dates (Oct. 1, 1955 and Jan. 1, 1956.) Meanwhile Dr. Andrew Offutt, state health commissioner, is compiling information for the - next step in the polio vaccination program. This is the inoculation of those remaining in the 5-9 age group and will be handled through the state (for indlgents) or family doctors. County health officers are obtaining information on the number of children cared for by their local welfare departments. Washington — Os the women in the U.S. who will reach age 65 this year, about one-fifth will go on to reach the age of 88. -f Philadelphia!—About 4.6 pounds of milk are used in the manufacture of one gallon of ice cream, the dairy industry says.

Mongrel Dog Is Hero, But Only For Minutes PETERSBURG, Ind. (INS) — Spotty, a mongrel dog belonging to Bruce Weathers, of near Petersburg, was a hero-but only for a few minutes. -— His heroism died when It became known that he had created the surroundings that made him a hero. Spotty carried- a box of matches from the Weathers home to a strawberry patch. He was playfully jumping up and down on the box when one ignited and set the whole box on fire. The blase spread to the dry strawbery p£tch and flames began fanning out in alf directions. Spotty then began running in circles around the jpreading fire, barking at every jump. His frenzied cries attracted Mrs. Weathers, who ran to his aid with a broom and soon beat out the flames. It was then learned that It was Scotty, who had caused the fireand his hero days were over.
