MRS. EMMA SIMMERMAN HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. Emma Slmmerinan celebrated her 80th birthday recently with a family dinner. The honored guest received many gifts and the dinner table wa« centered with a large birthday cake. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. John Simmermap and children Dickie and Betty, Mr. an* Mrs. Harry Smith and son Richard, and Mrs. Smith and children Dickie, Patty, and Jackie of Fort Wayne. RURAL YOUTH RETURNS FROM LAKE MCCLURE Members of the Adams county rural youth returned Sunday evening after spending the week-end at Lake McClure in Kosciousko county for the annual camp. Th|s camp was the fourth annual camp held by the local rural youth club. Activities on the program included square dancing, weiner bake, marshmallow roast, outdoor cookout, vespers, watermelon bust, swimming*, boating, volleyball, horseshoe. tournament, ping-pong, pop corn pop' and fishing. Leo Seltenright won the horseshoe tournament. A Sunday morning worship was held on vesper hill with many rural youth members on the program. Mr. and Mrs. Rene Brandi and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lobsiger prepared the food for the campers. Those who attended the camp were: Barbara Lewton, Ranald Stucky, Bob Gage, Carl Bluhm, Bob Yoder, Bob Heare, Sally McCullough, Anna K. Williams, Dallas Neuenschwander, Marilyn Kiefer, Tom Noll, Earl Yoder, Beulab Bert-ech, John Kipfer, Donna Scbieferstein, Juanite Hoffman, Marva Schaefer, Barbara Kelley, Vernon Ratcliff, Shirley Gerke. Bob Drew, Raymond Worden, Jean Ann Potts, Charles and John Ripley, Karl Rick, Gloria and Roger Koeneman, Bertha Landis and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Seltenright, extension advisors. Mr. and Mrs. John Marks attended the camp on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Marks is the state rural youth consultant from the Indiana Farm Bureau in Indianapolis.

HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB MEETS RECENTLY The Decatur home demonstration club met recently at the home of Mrs. Meldon Kreps, with 32 members present. The club song and creed were given by the group, followed by the business meeting conducted by the president, Mrs. Grover Levy. Reports from Purdue were given by Mrs. £arl Barnett, Mrs. Grover Levy, and Mrs. Alva Lawson. Plans for the trip to Detroit. Mich., were made and the next (minting will be postponed Ito* September 28, because of this trip. A social hour followed the business meeting with Mrs. Gerald Durkin, Mrs. Ora Schultz, Mrs. Robert Judt, and Mrs. Mae Butler, assiiging the hostess. MRS. LYLE MALLONEY 18 HOSTESS TO MEETING The Delta Theta Tau sorority met Tuesday evening at the home of Lyle Mallohey with Mrs. ,G. Medford Smith assisting the hostess in entertaining the members during the social hour. The president Mrs. Malloney, presided over the business meeting. Plapa were made for a very extensive philanthropic and social year. The sorority agreed to donate their time to the Youth and Community Center. Mrs. Henry Neireiter gave a colorful report on the recent national Delta Theta Tau convention, which was held in Fort Wayne. Prizes were won by Mrs. Nqireiter and Mrs. H. R. Frey. The next meeting will be held September 13, at the home of the Misses Mary Oatlierlne and Rosemary Spangler. The Juniors of the American Legion auxiliary will have installation of officers Monday. A, carryin dinner will be featured at 6 o'clock at the Legion home. The Monroe W. C. T. U. met Monday evening with Mrs. Kindell reading the devotions. Prayer was offered by Irene Winteregg. The business meeting was conducted by the president, Flossie Brandy-
berry. "Bugle Call," was the lesson presented to the group by Martha Mcßride. The group recently entertained the L. T. L. at the Winteregg park. (INS) — One teenage Indianapolis youth was killed and three other teenagers Injured when their car left the road and struck an embankment and a tree on the Harrison Pike near’the Ohio Indiana line early tdday. The dead youth was Paul Jones, 17, of Avondale Place. The.three injured, also 17, were Delbert Rednour, of 2345 Station St., Billy Peiroy, of 14 North Euclid Ave., and David Collins of 1621 Churchman St.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gass of Lake City, la., and Rlverla Beach, Fla., are visiting in Decatur with Mi. and Mrs. V. J. Borman and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Bodie have just returned from h seven months camping trip to the northwest. Miss Connie Hakes and Miss Marcella Glliig have entered nurses training at the St. Joseph school of nursing at Fort Wayne. Sister Mary Theodore and Sister M. Octavia, daughters of Mrs. Theodore J. Lengerich, are visiting in Decatur until Friday, at which time they will return to Fond du Lac, Wis. Moeller, resigned. > Bandit Gts S3OO In Loan Company Holdup INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — A bandit who fled with approximately S3OO after a swift moving holdup of a downtown loan office was sought today. The armed and unmasked man. described as about 30 years old, confronted Mrs. Marjorie Henderson in the outer office of the Household Finance Corp., Tuesday afternoon. He took the money from a eash drawer but made no attempt to obtain a larger sum in a safe in an inner office. Other personnel were unaware of the holdup until after the man fled. U. S. Airman Kills Himself, 3 Others Several Wounded At English Seashore LONDON (INS) — An American airman went berserk in Britain today and killed three persons and wounded six or eight others before committing suicide on the sands at Broadstairs. Maj. Sir John Ferguson, chief constable of Kent county police headquarters, identified the airman as a negro named Napoleon Green, but did not .have his home address. IHe said nine persons were wounded, including two women. One wounded man died after an American air force sergeant and RAF man were killed outright. First Air Force accounts said that seven persons were wounded, one of whom died. Officials at first said the gunman was killed in a duel but later said he killed himself with two shots in the chest after being wounded by U. S. air police. Message Os Sympathy Is Sent By Queen WASHINGTON (INS) —Queen Elizabeth of England has expressed her personal sorrow to President Eisenhower over the flood disasters and her sympathy for the victimes of the high waters. Her message said: "I am deeply grieved, Mr. President, to learn of the tragic suffering and havoc in the northeastern states resulting from the hurricane floods. Please express my sincere sympathy to the victims and to those who have lost their homes." Mr. Eisenhower replied: “Your majesty’s thoughful message of sympathy |o those bereaved and suffering as a result of the flood disaster touches me deeply. I am communicating your message at once to the governors of the affected states. I know it will bring comfort to them and to their citizens in distress." Welfare Department in Deep Freez Controversy INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — A knotty problem which has put the Marlon County Welfare Department in the middle of a "deep freeze” controversy. is to be settled by nutrition experts. Welfare Director Carl F. King said that a hearing conducted by bis department on the question of whether a recipient of welfare funds can use the money to buy a food freezer ended with a decision to let nutrition experts give the answer. i Mrs. Kathleen Bougher, mother of six children, claimed that she was actually saving money and getting better food by quantity buy ing since she obtained the freezer. She is paying $21.75 monthly from her $165 Welfare allotment for the freezer.

Phillips, head of the Indiana High School Athletic Association, today announced the resignation of a member of the IHSAA board of control and bis temporary replacement. He said that William M. Logan, formerly of Pittsboro High School, resigned from-the board of control because be is leaving tbe teaching profession and has moved to a farm near Greensburg. Robert Q. Jbnes, principal of Union High dbhooi at Modoc. in Randolph bounty, will take Logan’s place until the IHSAA meets Oct. 2fl at which a successor will be elected. HARTFORD CITY, Ind (INS) — Two Hartford City men were killed today and five other persons were injured in a two car collision on state road 3 four miles north of their home town. Dead were Jimmie Lee Allman, 28, and Lawrence Eli Coulter, 29. Police said that five Detroit residents were taken to the Hartford City hospital but none was believed seriously hurt. They Were identified as: Irene Dickens, 23; Rieble Rudolph Dickens, 26; Cordell Dickens, 46; Gradle Dickens, 43, and Kendal O. Dickens, 22. Officers said the Hartford City auto was driven off a county road onto tbe state highway in front 1 of the Detroit car. Six Children Die In Cleveland Slum Fire CLEVELAND (INS) — Six children burned to death today when a fire swept a two story tenement house on Cleveland's east side. The victims, from three families were taken to the county morgue. Three of the victims, the children of Mr. and Mrs. William Murphy, were William, Jr., 6; Veronica, 5, and Larry, 4. The others were Lever Grove, V&, his brother, Perk, seven weeks old and two year old Ronald Cottrell, who was believed to have been visiting from out of town. Muncie Children Get Second Polio Shots MUNCIE. Ind. (INS) Some 900 Muncie school children received polio shots at Muncie Field House today. French Premier To Call Reserve Army PARIS (INS) — French Preinfer Edgar Faure said today that 60,000 to 60,000 reservists would be called tt> the colors quickly to reinforce an estimated 100,000 Army troops battling Nationalist rebels in Algeria and Morocco. More than 1,000 persons have been killed since Saturday. Faure, who was in political hot water because of his attempt to compromise with the Nationalist leaders, flew to Paris from his talks Wtih Moroccan leaders in Aix Les Bains. He will fly back to tbe southern resort sdty late today. The premier, Who reported to President Retie Coty on the Aix Les Bains talks, said tbe conference was "very instructive” and probably would last until Rightist deputies have 4>reatened a revolt against the Faure regime. The conservatives sent a telegram to the premier Tuesday denouncing contacts with those ‘‘directly or indirectly responsible for these massacres.” Faure said his talks with Moroccan leaders was "not a sign of weakness," and adedd that the call to the colors of the reservists was a "precautionary measure.” Nationalist leaders demand the removal of Sultan Mohammed Ben Moulay Arafa, who replaced the pro-Nationalist Sultan, Sidi Mohammed Ben Youssef, deposed two years ago. The five right wing parties which support Faure bad warned him in the telegram Tuesday that they would withdraw their support from him in the National Assembly if any move was made to restore Ben Youssef.

Local Automobile Hit By Truck On Highway A car driven by Jesse Niblick, 71, of Decatur, was damaged in an accident at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. highway 224 two miles east of Decatur. Niblick bad slowed to make a left turn and was struck by a truck driven by Virgil W. Fuerst, 25, of Columbus Grove. 0. Fuerst said that the sun obscured his vision and he did not see the turn signals as he followed Niblick. Fuerst, unable to stop, swerved to the right ditch and hit the Nib--iick-WAT in the tight rear fender, causint about 6250 damage to the car and only slight damage to the truck which was loaded with poultry. The sheriff’s department investigated. A
