ENTERTAINS AT DINNER SUNDAY Mrs. John C. Spahr entertaihed with a dinner Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Vance Cribbs and daughter Carolyn of Middletown, Oi and Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Lee of Akiy»n, O. Afternoon guests were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Akom, Miss Agnes Foor, Miss Frieda Akpm of Ohio City,Q.; Mrs. Bernice Brubaker. Mrs. Inei Schaadt, Mr. and Mrs. Qeorge Week and children pf Van Wert, O. ADAMS COUNTY WOMfcN ENJOY pAY’S OUTING Fifty-nine Adams county women enjoyed a day's outing last Friday at Lake McClure. Silver Lake. Twenyt-five of the ladies were initiated for being at camp the first year. Five others weret graduated for attending three years. Crafts of textile painting and leather work were enjoyed by the women as well As sports of swimming and boating. A Swiss theme was followed. Mrs. Dortha Shady had charge o\ the vesper and candlelighting service Which included a memorial for Mrs. William Bufry. Officers for this year included Mrs. Clifford Essex, director; Mrs. Claude Leisure, assistant director; Mrs. Albert Davison, treasurer; Mrs. Noah Habegger, food chairman. The same officers were re-elected for the coming year. MRS. A discussion on purses was held by Mrs. Roland Wolfe. The health and safety lesson was given by Mrs. Paul McCullough on correct lifting. Refreshments were served at the dose of the meeting to the 15 members present, by the hostesses. Mrs. Ed McCullough and Mrs. Paul McCullough. The door f>rl*e was won by Mrs. Warren Wolfe. UNION CHAPEL WBWS IN MEETING THURSDAY The W. S. W. S. of Union Chapel church met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. MVron Frank with Mrs. Wilbur Foor as leader, using as her topic "The Life and Task of the Church Around the World.” A mission tour by plane was givqp by the following: Mrs. Florence Bauman, Mrs. C. O. Brown, Mr£. Robert Folk, Miss Elisabeth Cramer, Miss Janet Brown. Mrs. Robert Workinger, Mrs. Tom Harrell. : An interesting discussion on "Science of Missions," was given by Miss Veda Wllllhmson, and Mrs. L. T. Norris. Articles on church extension and conference mission were given by Miss Brown and Mrs. Bauman. The scripture was read by Mrs. Eunice Bird and Mrs. Charles Burrell. Mrs. Donald Smith, president, had charge of the business meeting. The fail Institute will be held October 10. at the Trinity E. U. B. church in Decatur. Refreshments were served to 11 members and six guests by the hostess, Mrs. Frank, assisted by Miss Sara Jane Frank. The Father's auxiliary of the V. F. W. will hold a business meeting at the post home Thursday evening at eight o'clock. Refreshments will be served after the meeting and a social hour will follow. The Women of the Moose will meet Thursday evening at eight
o’clock at the Moose home. Officers will meet at 7:30. The Mooseheart alumni chairman, Edna Davidson. will be in charge of the social houf. Mrs. Leland Ray will be hostess to the Pleasant Mills Methodist W. S. C. S. Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. The Zion Lutheran Needle club wMI meet Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the parish ball. The Eagles auxiliary 2653, met recently and plans were completed for a hobo party. The party will be held at, Hgnna-Ni),ttman park, August 10, and aTI members not having transportation are asked to be at the hall at 7:30 o'clock. Prises will be given for the best dressed hobo. A contract has been let to the Cole-Layer-Trumble company of Dayton, 0., by Van Wert county, 0., for the six year appraisal of all real estate and buildings In the couhty as provided by a new Ohio law. It will require until next August to complete the work and is done for the purpose of equalizing valuations for tax purposes. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Foreman of Racine, Wis., left Saturday from Chicago for a three weeks’ vacation in Germany. While there, they will visit Foreman's brother Ist Lt. Marcus Foreman, who is In the transportation corps, stationed a'. Heilbronn. They will also visit Mrs. Foreman’s parents at Traumstlne, Germany, and will tour Europe. They plan to return tfl their home, September 3. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Foreman of 1022 Marshall street, have as their house guests for three weeks, their three grandsons, Gary, Eric, and Wayne Foreman, while their parents are in Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kelley left Baer Field Sunday morning to fly to Philadelphia. Kelley will be,one of the delegates to represent the state of Indiana at the Supreme convention of be Knighs of Columconventlon of the Knights of Columbus to be held this week. August 15 to 18. Mrs. Kelley will have a check-up at the hospital in Philadelphia Monday and will then attend the social functions with her husband Tuesday and Wednesday. The Decatur Florai company will be closed until Friday. Miss Marlene Laurent, reporter for the Decatur Daily Democrat, has returned home after a oneweek vacation at Houghton Lake, Mich. Marie Weaver of Fort Wayne, accompanied Miss Laurent. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Norquest entertained Saturday with a dinner. Guests were: Mrs. David Gamble, Jr. of Wittier, Calif., and Howard Ships of Oxford, in Benton county. Mr. and Mrs. Thornton Meadows of Falls Church, Va., and Asa Meadows, Washington, D. C., are visiting their parents, the Rev. and Mrs. James R. Meadows in Decatur this week. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heller and son Steve are in Chicago for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Smith and family have returned from Indianapolis. where they spent several days.
