DAV AUXILIARY ENTERTAINS VETS The D.A.V. auxiliary number 91 entertained with a party at the Veteran’s hospital in Fort Wayne, last night. Volunteer workers included Violet Smith, Mildred Beltz, Elizabeth Allen, Mary Ellen Schuman, Martha Sommer, Mabie Ehrnam, Esther Ray, Clara E. Hitchcock, Sharon Beltz, and Ruth Cashdollar. Also the V.A.V.S. representative from Fort Wayne attended. The program included several selections by Ronnie Robinson and his orchestra; Karen and Mara Dee Striker, vocal duet; and John Paul McAhren guitar and vocal. A few of the songs presented by the orchestra were "September Song,” featuring Jerry Kaehr on the saxaphone; “Sheik of Araby,” featuring Jack Daily on the trumpet; and "Something’s Got To Give,” featuring Ron Robinson on the vocal. i BETHANY CIRCLE TWO IN RECENT MEETING Circle two of the Bethany E.U.B. W.S.W.S. held a meeting recently with Mrs.. Amos Ketchum in charge of the opening. Mrs. Clarence Smith had charge of deybtions, which were fallowed by a general discussion on the mission pYbject. Fourteen members and one guest were present. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mae Butler, Claudia Noll, MarJ Fennig, and Mrs. John Spahr. MISS DOROTHY CROSBY HONORED AT SHOWER Miss Dorothy Crosby, bride-elect of August 20, was honored at a miscellaneous shower given recently by Marlene Aumann and Mrs. Joan Thomson at the latter’s home. As the guest of honor arrived, she was presented with a corsage of glamelias. The guests were seated at tables decorated in pink and lavendar with center pieces of roses. Various games were played and prizes won were presented to the guest of honor. A delicious luncheon was served after which Miss Crosby opened her many gifts, which were arranged under a large pink and lavendar umbrella. Those present for the affair were: Mrs. Amelllia Crosby,- mother of the bride-elect; Miss Clara Fuelling, aunt of the bride-elect; the Mesdames Mary Kenney, Ruth Crosby, Doris Scheumann, Marilyn Stoppenhagen. Dorothy Williams Joan Hoffman, Evelyn Getting, and he Misses Anna Scheumann, Glennys Aumann, Roberta Koeneman, and the hostesses. SALEM W.B.C.S. MEET THURSDAY EVENING The Salem Methodist W.S.C.S. met Thursday evening in the church basement. The meeting was opened by Mrs. Charles Burkhart featuring group singing. The lesson and devotions were given by Mrs. Merle Riley and the lesson was entitled "United Efforts Toward A Better life.” The “Methodist Woman” was given by Mrs. Oscar Young and the "World Outlook” by Elisha Merriman. Mrs. Rue Strayer was hostess for the evening and she served refreshments to nine members. The Friendship Village home demonstration club will meet Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Kimsey school in Blue Creek township. Hostesses will be Mrs. Clara Dolch, Mrs. Charles Burkhart, Mrs. Paul Burkhart, Mrs. William Neadstlne, and Mrs. Clair Carver. ' Tri Kappa sorority will have a icnic Tuesday evening at 6 o’clock at the Hanna-Nuttman park. Members are asked to bring their own table service.

Methodist Speaker Bob Carlin, newscaster for radio station WANE, Fort Wayne,'formerly of WOWO, will be guest speaker at the 10 a. in. service Sunday at the First Methodist '’church. Carlin is tenor soloist and active in the Simpson Methodist church in Fort Wayne. His theme Sunday will be “What Are You Trying to Prove.” In the absence of the pastor, Noah Schrock, lay leader, will preside at the service. Mr. and Mrs. W. Russell Palmgren, Louisville, Ky.. and his uncle, Paul Palmgren of north of Decatur, were visitors in Decatur Thursday. Russell will enter University of Louisville this September on an athletic scholarship. He established a record as a football player for four years In a Louisville high school. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ellsworth and daughters Belva and Nancy of Orland, Calif., left this morning after spending several weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ellsworth of Decatur. Mrs. Sue Ennis, of New Port, Ky., has been the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Smith and son Larry for the past several days. While here she and the Smiths have visited with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tricker, Mrs. Maud Gilbert. Mrs. Raymond Walters and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Complain Os Noise On Thirteenth Street Several residents of the west part of Decatur near Thirteenth street have registered complaints with various city officials concerning the constant noise caused in that urea by the flaying of electrical music boxes by the various business firms. The boxes are placed outside and in addition (o music, business announcements are made to attract ;h,e, mptoring public. Several who‘nave registered complaints say . that the noise is continued until late at night. They claim that when the same thing occurred in the business section of Decatur several years ago it was stopped by invoking use of the auti-noise ordinance.
