State Officials War On Reckless Drivers Officials Spurred By Two Fatalities INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — State officials today began a drive against reckless drivers following the deaths of two Marion county youths in separate hit-run accidents. Governor George si. .Craig said he will direct bls traffic safety commission to try to stiffen penalties against motorists who continue to use their cars after their licenses have been suspended and also instructed state police to as-

sign a trooper at each post to keep watch on suspended drivers. Also, state police superintendent Frank A. Jessup said: “We will do everything possible to carry out the governor’s order. Furthermore, every driver we stop who does not have an operator's license will be double checked against the suspended list.” Morris J. Carter, director of the state bureau of motor vehicles, said he would attempt, to make complete records of all violators more readily available to courts at the time the drivers come to trial. He estimated that 50 per cent of the suspended motorists are continuing to drive. Also, Dr. R. N. Harger, chairman of the traffic safety division of the Indianapolis safety council, Mid: “The two tragedies in Marion county ought to stiffen the backbones of the chicken hearted judges and spineless juries who have been so easy on reckless and drunken drivers.”
Negotiations Over Strike At Standstill No Progress Made At Perfect Circle INDIANAPOLIS (INB) — Negotiations to end the strike at Richmond, New Castle and Hagerstown plants of the Perfect Circle Corporation were at a standstill today. . - James S. Allen, of the Federal Mediation Service, reported “no progress” after he met for two hours with representatives of the company and the striking CIO United Auto Workers. Allen said: “All the issues in the strike were discussed, but there’s ’just no progress to report. I may try to get the parties together in a week or 10 days depending upon developments.” The chief issue in the strike, which began July 25, is the union shop, but higher wages also are, demended by the unionists. Meanwhile, two adidtional acts of violence were reported from New Castle. Mayor Paul McCormack heard evidence and withheld judgment on an affidavit in New Castle city court charging Harold Wants, Perfect Circle purchasing agent, with pointing a rifle at him. The charge was made by Richard Shoptaw, a union official. Selling Dope From Ice Cream Wagon Indianapolis Man Taken In Custody INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — Selling barbiturates from an ice cream wagon is a charge faced by Donald V. Kent, 56, today. ,i Police said be was arrested after selling barbiturate capsules to several men while vending ice cream from hie pushcart. Later, the officers said they found several bottles of the barbiturate in Kent's room. He allegedly admitted he had used barbiturates 15 years. Also, a former legislative candidate of Indianapolis, Charles E. Colton Jr., was sentenced to two to five years imprisonment Tuesday night after a Marion criminal court jury convicted him of possession of narcotics. Police said they found 30 tablets of an opium derivative, pantopan and five envelopes of marijuana in Colton's automobile. A 16-year-old boy was with Colton in his car when be was arrested. Colton, who is 28 years old, was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for the general assembly in 1954. Two years earlier he was a beaten aspirant for 11th district congressman, ' Ohi^AanirTille^ - ■" In Traffic Crash KENDAJjL VILLE, IBd. (INS) — Kennell Mosley, 30, of Willard. 0,, was killed and Miss Sylvia Irene Stout, 34, of Kendallville, Ind., was injured critically in an automobile accident on Road 3, five miles south of Kendallville, late Tuesday night. State police said that Mosley was driving his pickup truck on the wrong side of the road and crashed into a tractor trailer at the top of -b hill. Miss Stout was riding with him. Six-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Slain NOBLESVILLE. Ind. (INS) — Funeral services will be Thursday for Mank Freeman, who accidentally yas shot to death by a five year old playmate on the front steps of his ’ Cicero home, north of Noblesville. Police said that the tragedy which claimed the only child of Mr, and Mirs. Philip Freeman occurred late Monday while he was playing with two neighbor boys. The neighbor children discovered a loaded rifle in a closet of the Freeman home and police were told that five-year-old Benny Voss accidentally discharged the weapon.
