The Adams county All-Stars won the district Pony League championship Sunday afternoon, walloping Fort Wayne South. 12-1, in the final tourney game at Zellner stadium in that city. „ Adams county advanced to the finals with a thrilling 8-7 victory over Wells county in an extra-in-ning battle Saturday morning. Fort Wayne South eliminated Maumee Valley, 1-0, in the second semi-final tilt Saturday. The Adams county team will compete in the regional tourney, which opens at Defiance, 0., Tuesday afternoon, with eight teams competing. Adams county will meet Mingo Junction, winner of the East Liverpool. 0.. district meet, .in the final first round, game at .9 o’clock Tuesday night. Adams county, after a scoreless three innings, broke loose for five runs in the fourth innings of the final game, scoring on four hits? two walks and an error. Adams county catcher, smacked out four hits, including a double, to lead the attack, while Terry Holtsberry and Steve Dellinger each had two. Saturday’s game was a thriller all the way. Adams county held a 5-3 lead after five innings, but Wells county scored three in the sixth for a 6-5 edge. Adams counted twice in the seventh for a 7-6 lead but W’ells evened the score in the bottorp of the seventhHoltsberry opened the eighth with a single, stole second and romped in with the winning run on an error. A huge championship trophy was presented to the Adams county team, managed by Al Gillig, and is on display in the window of the Peterson clotihng store. The game ball, autographed by the players, manager and coaches of the team, was presented to R. O. Wynn. Pony League president, and one of the most tireless workers for the Little League and Pony League since their inception here. Following their return to Decatur last evening, the team members were guests of Roy Kalver at the Adams theater. The eight teams in the regional tourney at Defiance represent all Pony League teams in Indiana. Ohio and Michigan. Pony League Games Cancelled Tonight The Pony League double header, scheduled for tonight at Worth; man field, has been postponed to a later date. The postponement was rna'de following the victory of the Adams county all-star team in the Fort Wayne district tourney Sunday. VFW Softball Team Is Defeated Sunday The Decatur VFW softball team was defeated by Eckrioh of Fort Wayne, 13-11, at McMillen park in Fort Wayne Sunday. For VFW, .Fisher hit a home run and Shaw a double' and single. Pogue and Baker formed the battery for Eckrich, while Shaw and Fisher hurled for the Vets, with Dull and Gray catching.
