Murder Charged To Indianapolis Man Admits Striking Man Found Dead I NTHANAPOLIS (INS) —A 42-year-old Indiajiapolis man today was held on a preliminary charge of murder after he admitted striking Carroll Franklin Angles, 30, about three hours before the latter was found dead. Under arrest in what first was believed to be an accidental death is Lovell Sumpter, of Indianapolis. ' Anglea's wife, Clementine, told police she found her hudband in front of their tome early Wednesday, bleeding from the mouth. She said that three hours later he was dead. Two Indianapolis motorcycle patrolmen, Victor K. Osborne and William Ball, recalled having seen Angles ss he was trying to start his car in an apparent drunken condition. He had a cut on his head. They had not arrested him but permitted him to go home with a friend. An autopsy was ordered and disclosed death was due to brain damage from a fall or blow. Detectives located Sumpter, who had been at the scene at the time police saw Angles, and Sumpter admitted that he bed hit Angles and he had fallen, striking his head on the pavement. The argument began when Angles, a factor employe, used vulgar language and Sumpter remonstrated, because a woman friend was present. Slight Damage Done In Auto Accident A car driven by Margaret Drennon, 41, of Lebanon, Tex., backed Into a parked U. S. government car at the corner of Third and Court streets Wednesday at 2:45 p. m. Damage was only $lO to the government vehicle. Kenneth D. Parrish, 20, of Decatur route four, was arrested for improper passing on Monroe street at 6:50 p. m. Wednesday by city police. He wHI appear in justice of peace court this evening. Fined, Sentenced On Traffic Counts Ruskell E. Pottiger, 32, of Fort Wayne, appeared in city court thia morning to answer charges of speeding and driving while his license was susupended- He was arrested earjf morning .in Berne. He entered pleas of not guilty to both charges and in the trial which followed was foun,d guilty of both. He was fined $lO and costs on the speeding charge and was fined $25 and coats On the other charge and was given a 10-day sentence in the county jail. Four Awards Given Indiana For Safety INDIANAPOLIS (INS) —lndiana has been given four national awards for traffic safety. Gov. (George N. Craig was given plaques by the national safety council for leadership, its Ml around program for safety education, and accident record keeping. He also received a plaque from con for reducing pedestrian fatalthe American automobile associaities. ' . Two Greenwood Men Sentenced To Farm INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — Two Green wood men today began 6<»day state penal farm sentences for beating an Indianapolis woman who resisted their advances ... SenteucetLlo the far mand fined SIOO and costs each were Forrest Lasiter, 22. and Ten Janes, 37. They were arrested June 19 by state police on the woman's complaint.
