Dixon, a partner in the Dixon-Yates combine, for not being “candid” during his appearance before the subcommittee. \ Kefauver charged there were "diametrical opposites" in the sworn testimony of Dixon and New York banker Adolphe H. Wensell on Wfelvell’s role in the steps that led to the 107 million dollar contract which President Eisenhower ordered cancelled last month. Farm Price Scrap In Congress Next Year Battle On Support Prices Scheduled WASHINGTON (INS) — Republicans and Democrats alike agree that the big fight over farm price supports will come early next year in time to supply plenty of ammunition for the 1956 presidential campaign. Congress is qet to get out of town momentarily without the senate having taken any action on price support legislation. The house passed a bill to restore flat 90 per cent of parity supports on basic crops and the senate could act on this measure when the new session convenes in January. Meanwhile, however, the senate agriculture committee plans to hold extensive hearings in many parts of the country during the congressional recess and may come up with some legislative ideas of its own. Almost the final word on flexible versus rigid supports was said in a debate between Sens. Russell Long (D La.), and Thomas Kuchel (R Calif.), carried by the NBC radiotelevision network over the weekend. Kuchel said: “I think the big farm fight will comp along next year when the question will be, should the price support law be continued, or should it be abolished, and should we return to 90 per cent rigid parity? I am a firih believer in the Eisenhower program.” To which Long replied: “you are not going to get many farm votes when they see what that program really means, because that is a flexible program and it doesn't flex any way but down, so far as we can determine.” Many side issues are involved in the debate. First, there is the matter of increasing the Commodity Credit Corporation’s borrowing authority

for prioe support pnrppses from 10 billion to 12 billion dollars. The tremendous inflow of cotton and other crops into CCC hands is expected to eat up what remains of the agency's present lending authority within a few months. Secondly, Democrats continued to hammer away at the administration’s failure to carry out an aggressive sales . program in the attempt to sell a goodly portion of the existing surpluses In overseas markets. Some claim that CCC would not have needed more lending authority if such a program had been in operation this year. On that score, Kuchel said;,, “to the extent that we dispose of accummulated farm surpluses, I am for it ... 1 do not believe that the 90 per cent rigid support guarantee legislation that we had under the Democratic administrations, should be reenacted, now." . Long's answer was that not a single month under the Eisenhower administration has been as good as the worst month under the Democrats in any year since 1941, as far as farmers are concerned. He added: “farm mortgages are up, farm debts are up, farm assets are down, farm prices are down, farm income is down, no matter how you look at it. And all that is in violation of the pledge that the party made when Dwight D. Elsenhower ran for president.” Washington Township Tax Rate Unchanged The proposed tax rate for Washington township will remain the same for next year at nine cents, according to the budget prepared by William Linn, Washington township trustee. The notice to taxpayers appears in today’s Daily Democrat. Other rates set for next year include French township at 10 oents and Berne-French school at $2.16.
