(INS)Purdue University claims soybean varieties its agriculturalists introduced have increased the Hoosier soybean crop by {2l million. Purdue sain Indiana farmers will harvest a soybean crop this fall valued at {2l million more than was possible in a single season less than 10 years ago. Results of a study of the last 10 years show that Indiana soybean yields averaged 16.7 bushels per acre in 1936-41 but in 1948-53 the average was 22.4 bushels per acre. That’s tan increase of 34 per cent. American Farmers ~i Rebel Al Parties Refuse Second Trip To Champagne Plant KRASNODAR, U. S. S. R. (INS) —Touring American farmers became surprise visitors at two typical Russian collective farms after rebelling against the rounds of banquets and parties plailned for them. The visitors, heavy with vodka and champagne, swept aside the caviar curtain Sunday when Soviet officials scheduled them to visit a champagne factory for the second straight day. Loren K. Soth, editor of the Des Moines Register and Tribune who wrote the editorial inspiring the exchange of Russian and U. S. farmers, was a ringleader in the Revolt with farmers Herbert W. Pike of Whiting. lowa, and Ferris S. Owen of Newark, O. .Soth reminded the tour chief that the delegation had been told it could go where it wanted. He said the group had no desire -to repeat the unprofitable 100 mile, ten hour gnapefarm trip made Saturday. Owen added: ■’Four and a half hours spent eating every day is making it impossible to see Soviet agriculture.” Ivan Streltsov. Russian agricultural ministry official, denied the Americans were being “led around by their noses* and said they were seeing what they wanted. But he added that the wine farmers were prepared to receive the visitors’ at banquets and ceremonies;
