NATO Council Head Praises Ike Proposal Open Skies Bid Is Praised As Great Peace Contribution LONDON (INSJ — The head of •*'- the NATO council declared today that President Eisenhower's -open skies" bid to Russia is “the greatest contribution to peace" in recent years. Greek foreign minister Sephan Stephanopoulos added that the President's ‘‘astonishing” offer at the Big Four talks in Geneva last -week "proves the sincerity and purity" of America's intentions. Stephanopoulos evaluated the Eisenhower plan in a statement cabled from Athens to this correspondent in response to a request for tile Greek minister’s views on the significance of the proposal. Mr. Eisenhower suggested to Russia last Thursday at the “summit” parley that the two cold war rivals trade military blueprints and permit aerial reconnaissance of each other’s territory. The Soviet leaders have neither comnjented on nor replied to the proposal. " ■’ Stephanopoulos said Mr. Eisenhower’s plan Is “practical and applicable”—provided there is good faith on both sides. He said enactment of the plan will create mutual understanding _ and confidence and pave the way to definite solutions of international problems. The Greek minister said the Eisenhower proposal would throw the splotlight of world publicity on the armaments situation in the respective countries. Such publicity, he' said, is necessary “for creation of a climate of mutual confidence so indispensable for the solving of international disputes and establishing of peace.” Still Going Strong FRANKFURT, Germany (INS) —An ancient heating plant has been discovered in a Roman villa near Frankfurt which still operates efficiently. Carbon Monoxide I. Poisoning Blamed [ Bad Water Heater Blamed For Death NEW CASTLE, Ind. (INS) — Carbun monoxide poisoning from a faulty water heater was blamed today for the death of a 17-year-old wife and the critical illness of her husband. • ' Dr. Robert Fbrney.
