Vermont Girl Wins Miss U. S. A. Title Will Now Compete For Miss Universe LONG BEACH. Callt. (INS) — Carlane King Johnson, a blue eywl blonde from Rutland. Vt„ who appears to have been poured from the saipe mold as last year’s •‘Mtes llniverae,” rwas crowned "Miss United States" Wednesday night at Long Beach. The 132-pound, 22-year-old beauty was crowned by Miriam Stevenson, last year’s Miss PSA who went on to win Che Miss Universe contest. Ringsiders at Long Beach auditorium were struck by the close resemblance between the two girls.
