Student Quizzed In Girl's Disappearance Lie Detector Test Is Used On Student BERKELEY, Calif. (INS) — The second phase of a lie detector test was scheduled today for Burton W. Abbott, 27 year old University Os California student thrust suddenly into the investigation of the disappearance of 14 - year -old Stephanie Bryan. The girl s belongings were found in the basement of Abbott’s rented cottage in Alameda. Calif. Abbott categorically denied Monday that he had any knowledge of Stephanie and said he had not jyjen heard of the girl’s disappearance last April 28 on her way home from school in Berkeley. - He gave a detailed account of his activities on the day she vanished, describing an automobile trip he made to Trinity county in Northern California to open a relative’s mountain cabin. — The emaciated former tubercular patient entered the case Friday, when his wife. Georgia, 32, accidentally discovered Stephanie’s red purse and pocketbook tn a box In a basement of the Abbott home. Police and FBI agents quickly uncovered Stephahie’s glasses, notebooks and books, buried in the sandy floor of the basement. They also dug up a brassiere that wae the right sizd for Stephanie but not positively identified as the missing girl’s. Meanwhile, police checked on some 150 persons who had access to Abbott’s basement since Stephanie disappeared. The job was complicated by the fact that the basement was used as a polling place during May. Handley And Parker Tour Camp Grayling 'CAMP GRAYLING, Mich. (INS) —Lt. Gov. Harold W. Handley and secretary of state Crawford F. Parker today completed a tour of inspection of the Indiana national guard. The two state officials spent all day Monday watching training and then returned to Indianapolis today. """

Make Final Choice Wednesday Night LONG BEACH, Calif. (INS) -* Judging begins today in the Miss U. S. A. contest in Long Beach, Calif. Preliminaries begin at 8 p. m„ in selection of America's reigning beauty from among the prettiest girls representing almost all the 48 states. The final choice will be made Wednesday night and she will go on to represent the U.S.A, in competition for the title of Miss Universe, which will be awarded Friday night. ?
