CLOSING MEETING IS HELD BY ACADEMY The Academy of Friendship of the Women of the Moose held their closing meeting of the year with a 6 o'clock dinner in the family room of the West End restaurant, with 24 members present. Hazel Schults, chairman, conducted the business meeting. New officers elected for the coming s*ear are: Bertha Zelt, chairman; and Iva Hunter, secretary. The next meeting will he held the fourth Wednesday in September. UNCROWDED FIELDS BECKON TO STUDENTS Encouraging students to study for careers in fields Where personnel shortages exist is one of the activities of the American Legion auxiliary in its educatlop and scholarship program, according to Mrs. Wayne Frauhiger, the auxiliary’s Unit 43 local chairman of this program. While aimed primarily at educational aid for children of deceased veterans, the program offers scholarship help to all interested young people, Mrs, Frauhiger Baid. She listed some of the fields in which a shortage of qualified workers exists as follows: Mental health —'Lack of trained personnel s_ - physicians, nurses, and other properly equipped professional and auxiliary workers - - is the most serious bottleneck- in the way of proper care «r xmfsojja Buffering from mental disorders. Social welfare work—estimated needs for qualified personnel in social work will exceed 50,000 in the next ten years, while less than 2,000 are graduated eacj year. Retarded children —‘Less than 20 per cent of the 1,500,000 retarded children in the United States have opportunity for education and training to develop the maximum of their capacities, largely because of lack of qualified instructors.
