Wyoming Forest Fire Is Battled One Os Worst In Wyoming History LARAMIE, Wyo. (INS) — Forest service officials battled one of the worst forest fires irf Wyoming’s history today as another roared out of control 130 miles south in Colorado’s Arapahoe national forest. Volunteers poured in to the Medicine Bow national forest west of Laramie to join national guardsmen and forest rangers fighting a fire which already has destroyed 1,500 acres of timber. Because the fire started near a trout stream, officials assume it was caused by fishermen careless with cigarettes. A recent heat wave left the forests parched and no rain is predicted for the next few days except a few scattered showers. An earlier blaze in the Medicine Bow forest —west of the one now burning—was brought under control Sunday. More than four thousand acres of timber have been destroyed by Wyoming fires within the past week.
