Selective Service Act Is Threatened Battle On Doctors' Drafting Is Threat WASHINGTON (INS) - A bitter fight over attempts to kill the doctors’ draft threatened tbday to end >ll selective service inductions on Thursday. That is when the nation’s selective service law is due to expire unless congress approves legislation to extend it, allowing the continued inductiop of men 18% through 25 years of age. A four year extension has been voted by both the house and the senate, but the latter also wants to continue the doctors’ draft for two years beyond its expiration date on Thursday. A house-senate conference committee has approved both extensions, but the drafting of physicians, dentists and .veterinarians is strongly opposed by many both in congress and in the professions themselves. House armed services committee chairman Carl Vinson (D Ga.), admitted he has “the fight of my life on my hands to get the conference bill approved.” Reportedly ready to lead the battle against the doctors’ draft on the house floor is Rep.
