The failure of the 25-year-old southpaw to approach anything resembling his 1954 form is starting to keep Leo Durocher awake nights. .. At this time a year ago, Johnny had won eight games and lost only two. This season he has won five and lost seven, including a 13 to 4 decision to Milwaukee Tuesday night which dropped the Giants a half-game behind the Braves and behind National League kingpin Brooklyn. Antonelli, who lost only seven in all of ’54 while posting 21 wins, lasted only 1 1-3 innings as he was blasted for six hits —three singles, two doubles and a home run — and six runs. It was the fifth time in his last nine starts that the terror of the world series was knocked out and the sixth time, counting his departure for a pinch hitter, that he failed to last. "I'm still off in my timing and coordination*” Antonelli said glumly. “I’m not smooth. I’ve been pitching on the side hoping to straighten out” After permitting a run in the first inning, Antonelli was staggered by a Danny O’Connell single, a Hank Thompson throwing error, a double by Bill Bruton, his second walk of the evening, Ed Mathews' double, and Hank Aaron’s two-run blast. Bobby Thomson greeted Paul Giel with another home run and the game was over for all practical purposes. Giel struck out eight Braves in 5 1-3 innings before Hoyt Wilhelm was attacked for five more runs in the ninth. The Braves had 17 hits in all and the Giants ten, including a Whitey Lockman homer. Chet Nichols needed seventh inning relief by regular starter Warren Spahn for the win. Alvin Dark, the Giants' star shortstop and team captain, missed his first game since 1952. Pennsylvania Plans Cleanup Os Boxing PHILADELPHIA (INS) — The Pennsylvania athletic commission has completed a month long investigation of boxing, but It was Indicated that the probe is “only the beginning” of a wholesale cleanup of the sport in the state. George M. Leader clamped a 90-day ban on the sport in the state. Moran had been cited by the group, along with Tommy Loughrey, Johnson's manager of record. ans three handlers for conduct detrimental to boxing and participating in a “sham bout.” In add!-' tion, Moran was charged with having an illegal monetary interest in Johnson. Before the hearing wound up Tuesday, commissioner Alfred M Klein temporarily stepped out of his investigator's role and became a witness to deny charges that he had "prejudged” the cases of the respondents. fiplice inspector John F. Driscoll also was called to testify about what he termed a sudden change in the odds, which he said indicated to him that "Someone knew Johnson wasn't in the best of condition."
