SOCIETY TO HOLD MITE BOX RALLY t Next Wednesday the Zion Lutheran Missionary society will have a mite box tally at its regular meeting in the parish hall at 1:30 P- m. Mrs. Walter Bauer, program chairman, announced that there will be a special showing of slides illustrating the worthwhile projects that are made possible by the mite box. TO HOST NATIONAL CONVENTION A meeting of the Decatur council of the Catholic Ladles of Columbia will take place Tuesday at 7:30 p. m. in the C. L. C. hall to complete final details for the national C. L. C. convention, which the local council will host. The convention will take place June 20, 21, 22 and 23 at the Van Orman Hotel in Fort Wayne. The opening event of the convention will be a reception at 8:30 p. m. Monday, June 20. ~ Among the highlights of the convention will be two pontifical high masses, one Tuesday morning at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and one Wednesday morning at St. Paul’s Catholic church. celebrate the Tuesday mass which is for the living members of the C. L. C. The Most Rev. Bishop Leo Pursley, apostplic administrator of the Fort Wayne diocese, offer the Wednesday Requiem mass for deceased members. For each of these masses, convention delegates will march to thp churches in a body with a police escort. The procession will be led by a group of Decatur members who are serving as pages, 'Miss Rose Nesswald has been named supreme monitor of this group. She -will be assisted by Miss Mary Catherine Spangler and Mrs. Max Hart. The group includes Miss Agnes Nesswald, Miss Rosalia Miller, Mrs. Ralph Kreigel, Miss Virginia Laurent; Mrs. Charles Keller, Mrs. Max Kreps, Miss Dorothy Rumschlag and Mrs. Richard Deininger. The convention schedule also includes several business sessions and a banquet which will be held Tuesday evening, June 21. Reservations for this banquet must be made by Tuesday, night during the regular meeting. Further plans and committees for the convention will be announced after Tuesday night. KIRKLAND LADIES CLUB IN RECENT MEETING The May meeting of the Kirkland Ladies club was held Tuesday evening in the home economics room of the Adams Central school in Monroe, with the mothers and daughters as special guests. A cake decoration demonstration given by Mrs. Hubert Hawkins, was enjoyed by the group and was preceded by repeating the creed, roll call, secretary's and treasurer's report, and the singing of the song of the month, “All Through the Night.” A very impressive memorial service was conducted by Mrs. Dortha Shady, in honor of Mrs. Franklin Fruechte, a deceased member. During the social hour, potted plants were presented to Mrs. William Erhman, as the oldest mother present; Mrs. Gene-Bluhm, the youngest mother; and Mrs. Joe Zimmerman, for have the most daughters present. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, the Meedames Walter Egly, Gus Yake, Thomas Griffith, Ralph Ross, Jr.; Edgar Zimmerman, and Russell Mankey. EVERREADY CLASS IN RECENT MEETING The Everkeady class of the Methodist church met in the ladies lounge of the church recently. The meeting was opened by. the president, Mrs. Harve Baker, who gave the devotions. Mrs. Asa Pollock presented a vocal selection. At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served by Mrs. Pollock, Mrs. A. D. Suttles, and Mrs. M. E. Hower. The next meeting will be a picnic in August to be held at the home of Harry Sipe in Berne. BAKE SALE, BAZAAR HERE ON SATURDAY A bake sale and bazaar is being sponsored by the Adams county home demonstration association at the Decatur high school gym Saturday, beginning at 9 a. m. All types of baked goods will be donated by the most experienced and experts cooks of Adams county. This is an opportunity for all homemakers to buy soiriething special for that week-end picnic. They attended the commencement exercise® for their granddaughter Julia Anm, who graduated with a class of 301 students. Miss Buffenbarger played the leading role in the senior class play and has been awarded a $750 scholarship to Evansville College, where she will major in elementary education. Archer, of Pleasant Mills, is reported to have been the driver of an automobile which he was backing out on the highway east of Van Wert, 0., when a truck driven by Max Vanlandingham of Terre Haute swerved to avoid him. The truck hit another car owned by Dale Merris of Van Wert, damaging it heavily. Vanlandingham was arrested at Napoleon, brought back to Van Wert and JHned 325 by Squire McKeddie for failure to stop after the accident.
