brides-elect are HONORED AT TEA »A tea of charming detail, honoring brides-elect Miss Mary Meyers and Miss Elpise Feasel, was given Sunday by Miss Marie Felber at the home of Mrs. C. C. Rayl. Beautiful floral arrangements enhanced the receiving rooms, where fiftyfive guests, co-workers of Miss Meyers and Miss Feaael at Adams county memorial hospital, called between the hours of two and five o'clock. Mrs. C. C. Rayl served from a table exquisitely laid in silver and lace and centered with a silver bowl of pastel shaded spring flowers. The honored guests were each presented with a lovely silver tray by the nursing and office staff of the hospital. PLEASANT MILLS WSCS MEETS FRIDAY NIGHT The Pleasant Mills Methodist W. S. C. S. met Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Fannie Nyffeler. The meeting was opened by the vice-president, Mrs. George Foor. A very interesting devotion and lesson on “Be Ye Doers of the World,” was presented by Mrs. Lee Custer, with Mrs. Darrell Clouse, Mrs. Glen Mann, and Mrs. R. H. Everett assisting. Prayer was offered by Mrs. Harvey Davis. Candlelight services were held with Mrs. Will Evans and Mrs. Bill Watkins reading the scriptures, and prayer offered by Mrs. Harley Davis. The meeting closed by prayer offered by Mrs. Everett. During the social hour, refreshments were served to 13 members, one guest, and one child, by the hostesses, Mrs. Fannie Nyffeler and Mrs. Lee Custer. MOTHER AND DAUGHTER FELLOWSHIP AT CHURCH Friday evening the mothers and daughters of the Decatur Missionary church held their mother-daugh-ter fellowship at the church parsonage. There were 48 in attendance. Mrs. Hollis acted as toastmistress and Patty Beam gave the welcome. Devotions were given by Mrs. Carl Lichtenberger. A toast to the mothers was presented by Mrs. Bonifas and to the daughters by Mrs. Roy Hook. Musical selections were given by Mrs. Harold Idlewine and daughter Sharon. Miss Opal Sprunger, a special guest, spoke to the group on “If I were a Mother.” A recipe, “A Love Cake for Mother,” was given by Nancy Helm. Mrs. H. J. Welty spoke on "iMusings of a Mother." Awards were given to a mother and a daughter, Mrs. Paul Buckingham and Patty Beam. The closing prayer was given by Mrs. Jeff Rauch and a goodnight speech was presented by Judy Gordon. Refreshments were served by Jeff Rauch, Dick Gordon, and Rev. H. J. Welty. MRS. DALE DEATH IS INSTALLED BY CLUB Mrs. Dale Death was installed president of the Decatur Emblem club Monday evening. This is Mrs. Death’s second year as president. The president of’ the supreme Emblem club, Mrs. Mary Ellen Schlosser of Cullman, Alabama; her sup-t rente marshal, Mrs. Gene Crittenden of Cullman; and two district deputies, Mrs. Viola Hammand of Garrett and Mrs. Helen Howell ot Decatur, were at the meeting to install the following officers: The Mesdames Dale Death, Fred Howell, Carl Baxter, Ray Heller, Clifford Brewer, Harry King, Eugene F. Durkin, Melvin Weisman, H. R. Frey, William Mansfield, Clarence Ziner, (George Bair, James Newton, Al Anderson, James Baker, and Louis Holthouse. Proceeding the installation, a dinner was served to members and several guests from Bluffton and Garrett, in the entertaining rooms of the Elks home. The tables were ararnged with garden flowers and candles. The committee in charge included Mrs. Fred Bashara, Mrs. Leland Smith, Miss Ethel Kleinhenz, and Miss Jane Kleinhenz. The final meeting of the season will be a nicnic to be held June 24. Leah Andrews Is Recent Bride Os Merlin Zurcher Miss Leah Andrews was recently married to Merlin ‘Zurcher in the Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. C. E. Lykins officiating the double-ring ceremony. Miss Andrews is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Andrews of 91il West Jefferson strfeet. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Zurcher of route pne, Monroe. Mrs. Leo Roe presided at the piano and Paul Andrews sang “Always.” "Through the Years,” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The bride was attired in a white satin dress, ballerina length, with a scalloped neckline and matching mitts. She wore a veil topped with white flowers, and cayried an orchid on a white Bible. Mrs. John. MRS. ROBERT KLEIN TO SPEAK HERE WEDNESDAY Mrs. Robert G. Klein,' past president of the Fort Wayne Presbyterial, will be the speaker at the May meeting of the Presbyterian Women’s association, Wednesday evening 7:45 o’clock. Mrs. Klein will use as her subject “God Speaks to Us." She illustrates her talk with pictures taken in her travels over the United States and Mexico. The meeting w ill be held in the sanctuary of the church because it is to be guest night. All members are urged to be present and bring a guest. /

Leonard Kingsley, vocational ag teacher in the Berne-French township schools, has been granted a thTee-year leave of absence, it has been announced by superintendent E. M. Webb. Kingsley, accompanied by his wife and their seven children, plan to leave in early September for’the Island of Timor. 20fi miles off the northwest coast of Australia. Kingsley will work with the cattle raisers of Timor. His work will be to improve the general health of the cattle of that island. Monroe Minister On Radio Thursday The Rev. Ralph R. Johnson, pastor of the Monroe Methodist church, will be' one of a group of ministers who will give messages i over Muncie stations this week. J. —- — ' “jZ ' ’ Search Is On For Screaming Woman Note Scrawled On Hat Is Only Clue DANVILLE. 111. (INS) —’ A scrawled note on an Evansville newspaper attached to a woman’s hat was the main clue today in a two state search for a woman who screamed for help to save her from “a crazy man.” Vermillion county sheriff William Hendrickson at Danville, 111., admitted that “I’ve had my leg pulled several times” but said he couldn't write off this one as a hoax. Sheriff Hendrickson said that Monday night, approximately at 11:45 p.m. (CUT), a resident on Ijanville’s southside heard a woman screaming for help. The resident said the voice came from a red automobile with Indiana license, which sped away after the woman passenger screamed. Police cars that reached the scene found only a woman’s hat pinned to a sheet of a newspaper, on which was scrawled a note: “Help, Um With a crazy man. He’s taking me to Chicago.’* Sheriff Hendrickson said the newspaper was the Evansville Courier, of May 18. > He said there were no other clues. -• 1 Road blocks were set up in all directions from Danville and Indiana, State police were also notl-

Town Is Panicked By Escaping Gas Rumor Os Disaster In Michigan Town MONTAGUE, Mich. (INS) — Rumors of disaster caused by escaping chlorine gas threw the tiny town of Montague, Mich., into panic for two hours. The deadly reddish • orange fumes poured out of a broken pipe for 30 minutes Monday and hovered in the air over the city. It caused a chain reaction of rumors of peril that terrified the 3,500 residents of the small resort town. But none of the townspeople was injured. Before the cloud of poisonous gas was blown harmlessly out over Lake Michigan, here’s what happened; 1. Orders were given to evacuate the city, ’• • . 2. Fire departments and state police were called in from all along the southern half of the lake coast. 3. 800 school children were transported out of the city. 4. False reports of holocaust, disaster and gas peril were broadcast over radio stations and civil defense, Red Cross and other disaster units were called out. Five workmen at the Hooker Electrochemical where the gas is manufactured, were either overcome or injured. Two were hospitalized.
