MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BANQUET HBL& TUESDAY Approximately 100 people attended the Trinity EUB. mo-ther-daughter banquet Tuesday evening which was held in the church parlors. The tables were decorated with flags and map napkina of India, Pakistan, and Ceylon, countries which the group has been studying. Mrs. Blanche Elzey offered the prayer proceeding the potluck dinner. Mrs. Sephus Jackson was in charge of the program and welcomed all who were present. Mrs. John Kelley read the scripture and welcomed Mrs. Ralph Stevens, a new member, into the society. Mrs. Blanche Elzey was awarded the gift for being the oldest mother present and little Marilyn Sue Plumley received the gift for being the youngest daughter. Each mother received a hand made bracelet which was made by the of these three countries. A prayer was offered in behalf of the women who made the bracelets. At the close of the meeting, all present Joined hands and sang "Blest Be the Tie That Binds.” BUSINESS MEETING HELD BY AUXILIARY The American Legion auxiliary unit 43 held a business meeting Tuesday evening at the Legion home. Mrs. Frances Monahan, president presided. Reports were given on rehabilitation. Girls State and junior activities chairmen. Clarence Mitchel was hostess to. the Happy Homemakers home demonstration chib Tuesday evening. Mrs. George Thomas, president, called the meeting to order. Roll call was answered by quoting a saying of mothers. The history of the song, “All Thru the Night,” was given by Genieve Parrish. Mrs. Floyd Mitchel gave devotidns and offered a “Prayer for Time.” Little Margie Schwartz, granddaughter of Mrs. MitcheL sang “Mother,” and “Let the Sunshine In.” During the business meeting the mental health. Pennies for frienumembers voted to donate $5 to ship were also received. Plans were made for the achievement day. Miss Bertha Landis, home demonstration agent, showed an interesting film on "Farmstead Development.” The June meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Paul Erp, with Mrs. Sells assisting. At the close ofthe meeting, the hostess served refreshments to 1(2 members, two visitors, and one child. B. P. W. HAS PARTY WEDNESDAY NIGHT A dinner meeting ofthe Business and Professional Women’s club

at the American Legion home Wednesday evening featured the 18th birthday observance of the club, the annual Mother's day party and a gtiest night. The International relations committee was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Phyllis Jennings is chairman of this committee, which includes Mrs. Nina Miller, Miss Dorothy Schnepf, Miss Marcia Ruddick, Miss Rosemary Miller and Miss Nancy Callow. The program for the evening was a demonstration of china painting by Mrs. Dessie Fifer of Ashley and of pencil spray painting by Mrs. Pauline Rose of Garrett. Ceramic pieces were the prizes which were won by Mrs. Irene Hicks, Mrs. Dick Bock and Mrs. Joan Jennings. Mrs. Toey Be/mer was elected first vice-president to replace Mies Aldine Frauhiger, who has resigned. She and other officers for the coming year were installed by Miss Joan Wemhoff, The officers include Miss RosemUry Spangler, ‘ president; Mrs. Irene Hicks, second vice-president;, Mary Howard treasurer; Mrs. Frances Koors, corresponding secretary, and Miss Marlene Laurent, secretary. Miss Spangler, Mrs. Hides and Miss Wemhoff were named delegates to the state convention which will be held at French Lick June 10, 11 and 12. A collection was made for contributions to a Girl Scout project to purchase a refrigerator for the Girl Scout club rooms. The amount which will be given by B. P. W. for this project is >lO.lO. Miss Marcia Ruddick was initiated into the club ; NAOMI CIRCLE MEETS WEDNESDAY EVENING Mrs. Otto Beehler was hostess to the Naomi circle of the Presbyterian church last evening. Mrs. David Langston, circle leader, announced a rummage sale will be held in the church basement May 20 and 21. Devotions were led by Miss Bertha Heller. Mrs. Ray Walther presented an informative program on "The Mqn and God in the City.” Eleanor Pumphrey and Mrs. Dick Heller assisted the hostess in serving refreshments. CHURCH MOTHERS STUDY CLUB MEETS RECENTLY The Church Mothers study club met Tuesday evening In the ladies lounge of the Methodist church. Mothers and friends were guests at the affair and the meeting opened with devotions given by Mrs. Virgil Sexton. A short business meeting followed, conducted by Mrs. Hollis Bonitas, who, then turned the meeting over to Mr?, Lowell Srnjth, chairman of the program. A. trio consisting of the Misses Sheila Ahr, Anita Smith, and Dana Dalzell, presented two voqal selections. Mrs. Smith presented several readings. Other participants in the program were Mrs. N. A. Bixler, Mrs; William Noll, Mrs. Winston Rawley, aid Mrs. William Brown. Plants were presented to Mrs. Newhaiti for being the oldest mother, and Mrg. Ed Summers for being tjie youngest mother. Each mother present received a handkerchief corsage. The meeting was closed with ’prayer by Mrs. Sexton. Hostesses included the Mesdames Fred Soldner, John Ebersole. Harlen Jackson. Clarence Hook, and Erman Johnson. XI ALPHA XI CHAPTER MEETS TUESDAY NIGHT Xi Alpha Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Vernon Custer. Mrs. George Bair, new president of th4 group, had charge of the business meeting. The roll was called and minutes of the last meeting .were approved. O. M. McGeath, director of the Youth aqd Community center, was the guest speaker. He outlined the proposed program for both adults and young people at the center this summer and also Void of plans for dedication week June 19 to 25. The study book of the sorority for the year will *be “The Home We Make.” The new president appointed standing committees for the year. Mother’s day tributes, in the form of poems, were given by Mrs. Glenn Hill and Mrs. Bair. Scripture for the day was read from the Book of Proverbs. The cultural lessons, “Good Management,” and “We Take Stock,” wjere presided over by Mrs. Hilt’ t Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting by Che hostess and a social hour was enjoyed. Mrs. Clarence Ziner was awarded the traveling prize. The Rosary society will have a mother-daughter party Monday at the K. of C. hall at 7:30 o’clock. The Builders class of the Trinity E. U. B. chutch will meet Friday evening at 7:30 o’clock in the basement of the church. The V, F. W. ladies auxiliary will hold a business meeting Monday evening at 8 o’clock at the post home. South Bend School Freshman Suicides 16-Year-Old Boy Commits Suicide SOUTH BEND, Ind. (I/JS) — An investigation was launched today into the “senseless” suicide of a 16y ear-o Id South Bend Riley high school freshman. Raymond Dorn died late Wednesday night of .22 caliber rifle bullet wound in his head. His body was found on the floor of his bedroom — the rifle nearby with an empty cartridge case in the chamber. His mother, Mrs. Bernioe Dorn, said she found her son’s body as she. was preparing to leave for work at a South Bend bakery; her son wasn’t home when she took a nap at 10 o’clock Wednesday night but that she wasn’t concerned because he often steyed in South Bend at his girl friend's home after school. Mrs. Dorn said she at first thought her son had fainted and then noticed the rifle ant the wound. Deputy coroner F. Dale Nelson listed the death as an apparent suicide but said there was no motive immediately available. — --- Will Attend State K. C. Convention Several ilembers of the Knights of Columbus, Decatur council 864, will attend the state convention Saturday, Sunday and Monday in Elkhart. Charles Cook and Jerry Kohne, lecturers, will be guests of the council at the convention. Gerald Kolter Is Named Counselor Kerald Kolter, 804 N. 2nd St., Decatur, has been named one of 12 counselors for the annual freshman camp to be held at Ball State Teachers College. The camp is held in September for 60 members <rf the Incoming freshman class. It is sponsored by the YWCA and YMCA and will be at Camp Redwing. Kolter is a 1952 graduate of Decatur high school and is a Junior at Ball State. He is a member of Young Republicans club. Geography club. Theta Chi fraternity and Blue Key. men’s honorary.
