ACHIEVEMENT DAY SCHEDULED JUNE 4 Ab national home demonstration week progresses, Adams county women continue to make plans tor their annual achievement day which is scheduled for June 4 at the Decatur high school gymnasium. Each of the 21 home demonstration elubs throughout the county will display a different exhibit on lessons which they have studied during the past year. The exhibits will be judged by Mrs. Gertrude Glasgow, home demonetreution agent in Wells county. A bake sale and bazaar will be featured during the morning of achievement day. Also planned Is a style show to be presented in the afternoon and evening. Tickets for this show may be purchased from any home demonstration club, at the county extension office and at the door. All proceeds of this event will be used to send two leaders and the president from each of the clubs, to the summer conference at Purdue university June 21, 22 and 23. MRS. SHAFFER HONORED ON 90TH ANNIVERSARY „ 'Mrs. Alice Shaffer was honored at a birthday party on her 90th birthday. The party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gaunt Sunday, with a potluck dinner and supper. Mrs. Shaffer received many gifts, flowers, and cards. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. William Kelly and daughter Barbara, Mr. and Mrs! OFFICERS ELECTED BY PSI IOTA XI SORORITY Mrs. Jack Heller was hostess last evening to the meeting of the Psi lota Xi sorority. The meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. Ray Lehman, roll was called and the minutes were read, The aorority voted to donate to the Crippled Children’s society. Reports were given on the speech and hearing clinic which will be held this summer. The members of the sorority will donate their services in assisting the instructors for the clinic. Reports were also given on Inspection, pledge, and the new candidates. Election of officers was held and they are as follows: president. Mrs. E. E y Rydell; vice-president, Mrs. Jack Heller; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Enos Osterman; recording secretary, Betty McNerney; treasurer, Mrs. Robert August; assistant treasurer, Carolyn McDougal; press reporter, Karen Striker; conductress, Karen Striker; membership board, Mrs. Doyle Collier, chairman, Alice Roth, and Mrs. Ray Lehman. Guest speaker for the ocassion was O. M. MqGeath, who presented a talk on the Decatur Youth and Community Center. At the close of the meeting refreshments were served by the hostess,' Mrs. Jack Heller.
GRETCHEN ZINTSMASTER CAPPED AT SOUTH BEND Miss Gretchen Zintsmaster was among the 100 girls capped recently at the Holy Cross church in South Bend. Miss Zintsmaster, a studqpt of the Hply* gross Central school of nursing~is a. 1954 graduate of Decatur Catholic high school. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Zintsmaster and children attended the capping ceremony of their daughter, Sunday, April 24. The meeting of the Welcome Wagon club planned for Monday, May 9, has been postponed. The time will be announced later. The Decatur Camera club will meet in the rooms above-thje Citizens Telephone company Monday evening at 8 o'clock. The Church Mother's study club will entertalh. their mothers Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock in the ladies lounge of the Methodist church. The Past Presidents Parley of the American Legion auxiliary unit 43 will meet with Mrs. Nick Brailn Monday evening at 8 o’clock. Mrs. Arthur Burris of 116 Harvester Lane will be hostess to the Delta Lambda chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, in a business meeting Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. The Everready class of the Methodist church will meet in the ladies lounge tonight at 7:30 o’clock. Hostesses include Mrs. Paul Edwards, Mrs. Homer Lower, and Mrs. Forrest Elzey. The First Baptist church will have a mother and daughter banquet Friday at the K. of P. home at 6 o’clock.
