Students from this area were among those honored for scholastic achievement at annual founders’ day ceremonies May 4 on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University marking the 136th birthday of the Hoosier state university. Honored were students from the Itadianapolis and Bloomington campuses and the I. U. centers in Gary, East Chicago, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, Indianapolis, Richmond, Vincennes, Evansville and Jeffersonville. All had earned places on the honor rolls pf the past year. In addition to being recognized at the annual convocation, they received special certificates at the dean's reception in the afternoon. Many of the students’s parents attended the festivities which also included an out-door band concert and the all-University sing, musical competition among housing units. Among students from this area who were honored were the following; 1— Berne — Nancie A. Lehman, Ernest M. Steury. Decatur — George M. Bair, Jr., Erwin J. Gutowitz, Margaret E. Harris. Carol F. Starr Commonwealth, founded 42 years ago in Albion. Mich., is a licensed, private, nonprofit charity for boys from broken homes. Langley, a graduate of Starr Commonwealth *in 1942, was selected to direct the Ohio branch when it was established three years ago. It is located on the 40acre Beckman estate three miles east of Van Wert on U. S. highway 30, W. F. Gernand is chairman at the program. Indiana Bankers To Hear Dr. Nyaradi FRENCH LICK. Ind (INS) —Dr. Nicholas Nyarhdi. former minister of finance of Hungary and now chairman of the department of economics at Bradley University, will be the chief speaker at the 58th annual convention of the Indiana bankers association at French Lick, May 11 and 12. More than 700 bankers and their wives and other relatives are expected to attend.

A Craig chief, Sullivan county Republican chairman James Ringer, was badly beaten in an attempt to prevent renomination of Sullivan's Mayoc Thomas Grayson, who swamped two opponents. The Democratic nominee is Arnold Ford, who beat seven rivals. Sullivan is in the seventh district in which the balance between Craig and Jenner forces Is close. Ringer’s downfall may mean his ouster as county chairman and the district's switch .from the Craig to the Jenner element. Mount Vernon Republican Mayor Paul Hironlmus placed third in a field of three for the GOP title captured by Clarence G. Carr. His Democratic rival will be city councilman Percy D. Bartlett. A prominent GOP leader was downed at Crawfordsville. He was Harold Roth, . who has served as state penal farm superintendent, state jail inspector and Montgomery county sheriff. The winner was incumbent Mayor Carroll O. Beeson, whose Democratic rival next fall will be Pauf Stump, former clerk of the supreme and appellate courts. Democrats at Fort Wayne nominated the youngest aspirant for mayor in that city’s history. He is Allred W. Moellering, 28-year-old lawyer whose GOP opponent will be Mayor Robert E? Meyers. Mayor Ivan H. Brinegar of Bedford, former president of the Indiana Municipal League will be the GOP candidate. No Democrat filed. Mayor Noland C. Wright of Anderson, former Republican state chairman, was renominated and his rival will be former state senator Ralph R. Ferguson. Proponents of fast time won nearly two to one In a referendum in Washington held in connection with the primary. The candidates named were Mayor Homer E.
