PRE Michigan 'Representative Louis Rabaut believes that our country must be made mere God-conscious. It was he that initiated a bill to have inscribed in our piedye of allegiance the phrase, “Under God” which passed Congress unanimously. At his urging, the Post Office issued 3-cent and 8cent "Statue of Liberty" stamps bearing for the first time in U.S. history the words. “In God We Trust." On the second day of the present congress, Rep. Rabaut introduced a bill to authorize a special Post Office cancellation with the message, “Pray for Peace*. It is predicted that this bill will pass unanimously by both houses of congress. He has said, "We have tried w-ithout success every method known to man to attain peace. Why not turn to God’ We ought to remember Him. Fqt in many ways since the founding of our nation, He has blessed us abundantly." CLERICUS SAYS: Clericus says: "Them that honor me. I will honor,” said the Lord to a priest long ago. (I Samuel 2:301. Many of us believe that the honorable place occupied in the world today is due to Americans of other days who have honored God. In most communities, there are citizens held in high esteem and deep affection because they have honored God first in their lives. •

Creamed Comments on the Sunday school lesson, Jehoshaphat's Righteous Leadership, II Chronicles 17:1-7; 17:9; 19:4r7, for Sunday, May 1. Jehoshaphat was one of Judah's good kings; his strength was In his calling on God for help. He practiced his religion in laying spiritual foundations for his government. At the same time, he proceeded to fortify his country against enemies. V.l. "And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel." Aaa, Jehoshaphat's father, had begun fortifying Judah against Israel on the north; this gave him a vidion for better self protection. At the same time, there was hope of reconciliation between the two coun- , tries. V. 2. “And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken." Large cities were protected by surrounding walls. A trained army was maintained; the powerful country of Ephraim was held at bay. V. 3. "And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim.” Strength, courage and comfort follows a situation when the Lord's presence is realized. Nothing else matters. Jehoshaphat's close relation with God caused him to have nothing to do with powerful idols. V. 4. "But sought tq the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel." The word "seek” and “sought" are constantly used regarding Jehoshaphat. Jesus said, “seek and ye shall find." It is a compliment to be a seeker of the Lord. God is all the time seeking men and in this dual seeltlng;-ihe Lord identifies himself with the seeker, the ideal re, lationship. V. 5. "Therefore the Lord stablished the kingdom tn his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance, i V. 6. “And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the Lord; moreover he took away the high pieces
— an 4 j I Wisdom Little the witness stand was asked by the attorney, “Did any ope tell you what to say in court?” “Yes sir’” replied Jimmie. “Who tqld you what to say?” “My father," was his quick reply. "Suppose you tell the court what your father told you to say.” “Well, sir. ipy father said the lawyers would try to mix ine up; but if I told tbe truth 1 would come through <ll right," Do You Know: 1. Why did the Jews accuse Paul in his last visit to Jerusalem? 2. In what did the Pharisees Hid Sadducees differ? — ——- 3. How many men vowed they would not eat till Paul was slain? <. Who informed Paul of this plot? s.Who said. “Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian”?

and groves of Judah." The phrase "lifted up” meant courage. The least vestige of idolatry was eradicated. All sin must be eliminated in a righteous life or nation. - , y.7. “Also in the third year of his reign, he sent to his princes •Ven to BenhaiL and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah and to Nathaneei, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah." The princes with Levttes and priests went on a teaching mission. A good government is interested in the proper education of the people. Our tax-supported schools are absolutely necessary. The command of Christ is “Go teach all nations.” If that be done well, world peace will follow. V.t. “And they taught in Judah and had the book of the law of the Lord with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.” No part of the country was neglected by this teaching crusade. The text book was the Pentateuch. In this text book the fundamental facts of God were presented. “What does God have to say” is fundamental. — V. 4. “And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem, and he went out again through tbe people from Beersheba to mount Ephraim and brought them back to the Lord God of their fathers.” Likely the people were unfaithful and the Ung himself went throughout the land calling the people back to God. God wants no backslider to go down in defeat. V. 5. “And he set Judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city.” Judges are needed for the interpretation of the law. Court of justcie are essential in good government. Note that the judges were occupied in tbe cities for it is there where sin thrives the best. V. 6. “And said to the judges, Take heed what you do; for judge not for men, but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.” Here was a lofty conception calling for impartial hearings, no bribery or tolerance of the least evil. V.7. "Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be uppn you; take t heed and .do it; for there is no, taiguify .with. our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts." There is no perversion of justice with the Lord. Living right with the Lord is a big business. —Based on copyrighted outlines produced by the Division of Christian Education, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U. S.
