Destroyer Escort, Freighter Collide Two Enlisted Men Injured Thursday CAPE MAY. N. J., (INS) — A navy board of inquiry launched an investigation today into the crash Os a destroyer escort and a freighter in Delaware Bay, 18 miles north of Cape May. Two enlisted men aboard the navy vessel, which was carrying Philadelphia reservists back from Caribbean training cruise, were injured when it was rammed amidship at 8:30 Thursday night. The escort, the USS William T. Powell, and the 'freighter. Mormacspruce, owned by the MooreMcCormack Dines, I no., were locked together tor several hours after thfe crash. The Powell, however, bore the brunt of the damage, with a nine by 12 foot hole in her side, and a broken propellor shaft. Aboard were 204 navy men, including 15 officers. Coast guard vessels were dispatched from Cape May and salvage craft went out from the Philadelphia naval base to the crash site. The injured were taken to the Burdette Tomlin memorial hospital at Cape May Court House. The injured were identified as fireman Stephen Oswald. 20, of Newark, and seaman 1-C Ronald Parker, 21, Cape May. Gross Income Tax Receipts Decline INDIANAPOLIS (INS) — Figures released today by state budget director Don Clark revealed that gross income tax receipts declined for the fourth consecutive quarter. But Clark said he was •'encouraged'* liecause the January - February - March drop wks less than expected, thus increasing by perhaps $3-million the anticipated gross tax income by next June 30. G. E. Mails Stock Bonus To Employes 177,400 Shares Os Stock Being Mailed SCHENECTADY, N. Y. — The General Electric company is. mailing a bonus of 177400 shares of its common stock, which would cost about >9.000,000 ia today’s market, to approximately 43,000 present and former employes under its G-E employes savings and stock bonus plan. -A Participants in the plan also have recently received checks aggregating $1,283,000, representing the accumulated income earned on the stock since 1940. Employes and former employes also received U. S. savings bonds casting approximately $15,400,000 which they had left on deposit with the company since 1949. G-E employes who buy U. S. savings bonds through payroll deductions under the plan and leave them on deposit with the company for a specified five-year period receive a bonus in G. E. stock equal to 15 percent of the purchase price of the bonds. G-E contributes the shares as an incentive for employes to make regular savings through purchase of U. S. savings bonds under the plan. This is the second delivery of the company-contributed stock bonus shares to be made under this plan. Last year, more than 20,000 participants each received one share of G. E. stock as a bonus on bonds purchased under the plan during the last three months of 1948. The plan became effective October 1, 1948. This year’s stock distribution, ranging from one to six shares each, makes a total of nearly 198.900 shares issued to employes and former employes under the plan. The stock bonus shares represent. for a large majority of the G-E employes participating in the plan, their first opportunity to enjoy share ownership in the com-
