American Pilot is Released By Reds MjfDELBBRG (LNS) —The U.S. army announced today that the American pilot and German passenger ot a military helicopter which crashed Match 17 Inside the Soviet occupation zone had bean returned to American control. Winner MEXICO CITY (INS) — Uncle Sam’s athletes, their unofficial Pan-American games* championship a foregone conclusion, swept into the semi-final day of competition today with nothing left but a mopping-up operation. The U. S. clinched the basketball championship Wednesday night and won three more swimming titles, bringing to 6« the total number of gold medals it has won in the first 11 days of the western hemisphere’s big preOlympic warm-up. Actual competition — primarily in swimming, horsemanship, fencing and soccer—was to be completed today and Friday. Saturday is reserved for closing ceremonies and presentation of awards. The United States brought its point total Wednesday to 1,175. Runner-up Argentina, winner of the first Pan-American games in 1951, '<Jiag~ 523 points, and thirdplace Mexico 357. A 72-to-29 drubbing of Venezuela with Bob Williams’ IS points leading the way, sewed up the basketball crown. CYO Grade Tourney Scheduled Saturday St. Josephi’s of Decatur will compete against three other teams in the annual CYO grade school diocesan tourney, which will be held at the Central Catholic gym in Fort Wayne Saturday. The tourney was originally scheduled for Sunday, but has been shifted to the Saturday date. Draw for the tourney will be made shortly before start of the first game, scheduled for 1 p. m. Saturday. The championship game will be played at 7 p. m- Saturday, preceded by a consolation game one hour earlier. Other teams in the tourney, which was won last year by the Decatur lads, are St John’s of Whiting, St. Joseph’s ot South Bend and St. Monica’s of Gary. D-Ciub Banquet To Be Held On Friday The annual D-club banquet will be held at the Decatur high school Friday evening at 6:30 o’clock.
